I don't believe this is done without greater intent. There is a ground swell growing in this country to stand against the socialists for their open support of abortion and other intrinsic evils. The Pope is giving cover to those who subscribe to the "seamless garment" approach by saying that the conservative right also supports evil in the death penalty. As he has done before... this creates confusion on what should be a clear issue.
