Without denying some of the negative results of V2, there has always been a Catholic Humanism, which in no way put “man” ahead of God, the Holy Spirit or the God Man Jesus.
The world needs reminders every so often about man's God given dignity.
After the wars preceding and during the Council, such a reminder was crucial.
