Putin's hard-hitting speech at the commemoration of the 1030 year anniversary of the baptism of ancient Rus reaffirms the country's commitment to Christian values:
Vladimir Putin: The Christianization was the initial stage of the development of Russia's statehood, of the true spiritual birth of our ancestors, of the definition of their identity and self-awareness, of the explosion of the national culture and education, of the development of multi-faceted connections with other countries.
The Christianization of the Kievan Rus showed its people authentic moral and spiritual values. As Lev Gumilyov, a philosopher and mastermind once said, "Christianization granted our ancestors the freedom to choose between good and evil. The victory of Orthodox Christianity goes back centuries for Rus."
The nations that have accepted Christian values to their own were able to rise to eminence in politics, arts, literature, academia, and economy. They gained the valuable experience of unity which was repeatedly saving, supporting, and making them stronger during the toughest, most crucial points in the history of our country. This sublime spiritual heritage is timeless.
Our sacred duty is to preserve and to increase it for future generations.
This Holy Day has united Orthodox Christians of the Kievan Rus and the entire world.

Mere propaganda? I dont think so. The ancient history of Russia, bears witness to the truth of its Christian heritage.
Pharisees and faux Christians are anti-christs. The real Christians of Russia exist. And they currently do not run the Kremlin.
The enemy of the Christians in Russia is the Kremlin, just as the Chinese government is the enemy of its own people.
Also be careful of lumping the whole of Eastern Europe with Russia. The people of Poland, Ukraine, Romania, the Baltics won’t appreciate you calling Putin a real Christian. They view Russia much more wearily than we do. Armenia more than ever now too.
Perhaps you are right, but I see the Russian government putting their money and resources where their mouth is, which is more than I can say for our most of our politicians.
The Russian government is not Christian.
Lemme guess your first name is Ramesses...or Ram for short.
No need to get vulgar and insulting. After what has been happening in this country, some people like to see support, mild though it may be, for Christianity.
Maybe instead of turning to false idols pursuing Satan’s agenda, people should work on actually BEING Christian. Like really/actually Christian, not fake Putin style.
God showed his mercy on America when Trump became president. Don’t squander the moment.
Agree...but it will not come from Russia/Putin
I guess true Christians destroy and kill their neighbors and wage wars. who knew?
As long as putin declares himself to be a Christian, the boot lickers on here will announce it as such.
Hard to believe so many are here....
The key to your first sentence is the word TRUE
and the answer would be negative
To put this in context: the center of Christendom used to be claimed by many nations and even cities. However, it came together in Rome. Later, when Rome fell, the center moved to Constantinople, which also considered itself the center of the Roman Empire.
At that time, Moscow had become a major center of Christianity, so when Constantinople fell in 1453, the Russians assumed that Moscow would become the new center. But instead, the center shifted back to Rome.
This was in large part because of the east-west schism in the 11th Century. But the Russians have been ticked off about it ever since.
Enter Putin. Wanting to do anything to rebuild Russia after communism, he decided to preserve some elements of communism, as well as some element of Czarism. He also saw the Russian Orthodox church as unifying to the people.
Then he had an amazing idea. For Moscow and the Russian church to host a *conclave* of all the eastern orthodox churches, but not Rome. It was a home run idea, and churches who hadn’t met in centuries were suddenly all smiles.
There was even talk for a while of making Putin an orthodox saint.
While everything else he has done has had mixed results, this conclave worked beyond anyone’s dreams.
