Homos were rampant in the priesthood when I was an altar boy 50 years ago.
Fifty years ago was 1968, and the homosexual trouble peaked in the decades following the close of VatII, roughly '65 to '85.
That's what the John Jay report and other studies indicate.
In that same time period, I had a boyfriend who had been a Franciscan seminarian. Their seminary (Duns Scotus, Southfield MI) was decimated in the aftermath of the Humanae Vitae dissent and the hurricane impact of the Sexual Revolution.Throngs of priests-professors decamped. Then the seminarians cleared out as well.
I don't have a detailed knowledge of their history, but my impression was that the heteros swarmed OUT, which left the homosexuals IN with a decisive majority.
What's going on now is a flare-up of that same process. It's spooky how much it feels like the '70's all over again.
