Right now the sound you hear is of wallets and purses closing by fed-up lay Catholics.

When the judgements pick up, they'll ask everyone for $X/family...

We are called to be holy.

We are called to be holy.

Yes we are....and that is built upon Christ and only Christ....no one or nothing else.

I don't think you really want to appeal to the Greek too much for a defense of Roman Catholicism.

So much of the Greek is against Rome on so many issues.

But metmom's ire is directed at all Catholics without distinction, past, present and future:

Nonsense. I never said such a thing.

Your thinking that's what I meant was just an assumption.

Or there be payment in other ways.

Do you think Rome will sell off their artwork or draw on their vast wealth? It would be an option.

The sad reality is that it’s come down to the laity doing it.

And that’s because the church leadership won’t.

It shouldn’t be the responsibility of the laity to clean house in regard to their clergy.

And money talks where nothing else will.

If the church won’t clean house just because it’s right and the right thing to do, you guys are still in a world of hurt.

If they’ll do it only because the cash cow has dried up, they are doing it for the wrong reason and the church needs to close up shop.

It’s no longer a church but just another money grubbing organization living off the donations of its followers, no different than any other scam artist televangelist.

I believe anyone over 18 having sex with anyone under 18 is committing pedophilia

Kind Boomer, the terminology is not a matter of personal opinion or belief. Pedophilia is a clinical and legal term denoting sex with chidren who are not yet pubescent. The media has blurred this term and tends to use it for sex with any minor; but that is incorrect. The term for sex with minors (adolescents) who have achieved puberty is ephebophilia. It's an awkward spelling and few people use it. But the distinction is very important to this discussion.

The studies that have been done, both the John Jay study from 2002 and this recent grand jury document in Pennsylvania, indentified the great majority of sex abuse by priests agains minors was in fact against adolescents and young adult seminarians, with only a small percentage against small children—which supports the argument that the abuse is most correctly understood to be homosexuality, not pedophilia. And it indicates that the problem may be reduced or largely eliminated by denying the priesthood to unrepentant homosexuals.

There is a reason why God's Word warns against homosexuality. The Church must not weaken and cave in to the progressive culture about this condition; and the situation in the seminaries, with unmarried men living together, can only be chaste if the men have a true vocation and fitness to serve God instead of self.

They don’t seem to have a homosexual problem at all. They seem to have plenty to go around.

Yes, Jesus was the rock and peter was also called the rock.

John 1:42
42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

Greek interprets it as stone, but any one can look it up and see that Cephas means rock in both Hebrew and aramaic.

Greek: 4074 Pétros (a masculine noun) – properly, a stone (pebble),

4074 /Pétros (”small stone”) then stands in contrast to 4073 /pétra (”cliff, boulder,” Abbott-Smith).

Nothing but trash, for the purpose of making a liar out of Jesus.

And of course Paul knows more about it than Jesus did because Paul is the God of the protestants.

But surly Peter could not have known any thing because he is the protestants punch bag and a hero to the catholics.

Sorry to appear pissed but you prosti -I mean protestants make me sick with all of your made up bull shiit.

The Greek that Scripture was inspired in is nothing but trash to you?

Well, you certainly are entitled to your opinion but I’d consider the original Greek far better to build a doctrine on than a translation in another language.

Rome’s whole argument for Peter being the rock is based on a translation and it’s beyond ironic that Catholics disallow Scripture in the Greek, from the ancient manuscripts that we have, and build it instead on the English translation, which is really not as precise.

How hypocritical.

Your version makes a liar out of Yeshua.

He called him a hard throwing pebble, because he was so obstinate. He was constantly a self agrandiser.
