If a bunch of the pastors in my denomination were caught buggering little boys and girls, I’m bringing a horsewhip to church.

AMEN! Sadly, most denominations have been, in some way, touched by this kind of garbage. The difference is in how churches handle it - is it swept under the rug to "preserve the reputation of the church", or is it dealt with swiftly and aggressively using criminal law system as well as appropriate church discipline?

AS a pastor, I underwent a comprehensive background check before my call was finalized for my current pastorate. I then submitted only a few months later to yet another because I was going to church camp as a sponsor - and our camp requires ALL adults who are on the camp facilities over-night or for any extended or possibly unsupervised time - must have a background check.

Our church (and many in our association of churches) require a background check for ALL who will teach, supervise, or in any way spend time with our youth.

It is a crying shame this is necessary - but we must do due diligence. Further, we have other policies in place regarding supervision of youth.

Any church, parachurch, or denominational entity that fails to take similar actions is setting themselves up for major problems.
