Fr. James Martin: Pope Appoints ‘Gay-Friendly’ Bishops, Cardinals to Change Church on LGBT

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 7, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Vatican consultant and homosexual activist priest Fr. James Martin stated at a recent conference that Pope Francis has gone out of his way to appoint “gay-friendly” bishops and cardinals in the Catholic Church.

Speaking at the Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice 2018 in Washington D.C. on Saturday evening, the Jesuit priest and America magazine editor-at-large told students that “things are changing” in the Church regarding homosexuality under Francis’ watch.

“...Just look at what has happened in the last five years--since Pope Francis has been elected,” he said.

“First of all, Pope Francis’s comments about LGBT people like ‘Who am I to judge’. His five most famous words were in response to questions about gay people, right? He’s the first pope to use the word ‘gay’, you know, in a sentence,” Martin continued.

Martin emphasized Pope Francis’s relationships with people who identify as LGBT. He pointed out how the Pope has appointed bishops and cardinals who support the homosexual agenda.

“He has gay friends. He’s talked about wanting gay people to feel welcome in the Church. That’s a big deal. He has also appointed gay-friendly bishops and archbishops and cardinals, like Cardinal Tobin, the archbishop of Newark who, for example, held a ‘Welcome Mass’ for LGBT people in his Cathedral… So that’s one trend,’ Martin said.

Look how Jesus treated the woman caught in adultery.

The woman at the well was not called a sleep-around.

He associated with drunks and tax collectors and stinky fishermen; who probably had some REALLY rough language skills!

Many commands of God require the exercise of righteous judgment.

"Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple" (Romans 16:17,18).

All these commands require the careful exercise of righteousness judgment. Do not be deceived by smooth words and flattering speech. Beware of wolves who come to you with a sheep's skin.

We must be careful not to make unqualified judgments. But we must judge appropriately when commanded to do so.

Not trying to start a fight, but man, I'm confused. I don't see any of this in the scriptures. Holy Queen? Mother of Mercy? our hope? most gracious Advocate?

Please shed some light on this. When Jesus died, he paid for all of humanity's sin. In fact, “hamartia”, describing sin in the book of Romans was used I believe 47 of 49 times.

Hamartia is a noun, not a verb. In other words, Jesus came to change who we ARE, not what we DO. When you come to a belief in Jesus, your nature has been changed from sinner back to righteous before God, just as it was before the fall in the garden.

So why then are folks begging God for grace, when Jesus accomplished this...once...for all...for ever. This is so totally scriptural.

We are righteous, we are more than conquerors, we are blameless, we are holy, we are children of the Most High, we are made saints, kingdom priests...I mean all of this is in scripture and ARE the promises of God for those who accept Jesus as their messiah.

To be clear, I am not anti catholic. In fact, my granddad was a devote catholic and I have always gravitated toward the catholic style of worship. Beautiful services, lots of tradition, everything in the service has a meaning and is meant to stimulate all the senses and lend itself to worship.

That said, when I began studying scripture, I found that many things in catholic theology did not align with scripture. Troubled me. I would chant the rosary...over...and over...and over. Repeating the same things. I found myself focusing on MY EFFORTS rather than the work of the cross, the shed blood of the Lamb of God. Trying to earn my way to heaven when clearly scripture teaches....REST in HIM.

OTOH, since not EVERYTHING Jesus said or did was recorded, Catholics cannot tell us with certainty that Jesus never commanded anything to be written down.

All we know is that in what was recorded, there is no recorded command of Jesus saying that.

So since it’s not recorded that Jesus didn’t tell people to write things down, then we can presume He did.

If you are incapable of reading John 6:50-71 and recognizing Christ's reference to his establishment of the Eucharist in the Last Supper, then there is no point in my explaining further.

If you can read this passage and fail to understand, then you are with those in vs. 66 who left Christ due to lack of faith:

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 

54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 

55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 

56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 

57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me.
