Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

I learned to ride a motorcycle on a road called The Jamaicaway in Boston, MA. This lovely scenic road was originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (The same man who designed Central Park), and is part of Boston's Emerald Necklace. Since it was designed right after America's Civil War (Olmsted was a Veteran of that War), its purpose was to provide a lovely horse-and-carriage ride from the center of Boston all the way to Franklin Park. However, the big Hospital District (Brigham & Women's, Longwood, The VA, etc) are all along that route, and it soon became a commuting nightmare. Still, it is a lovely place to ride, as long as there aren't any other cars on the road!

This was the road that a certain atheist biker would take every day home from work in the hospital district. It was really the ONLY route, as the main highway would necessitate going ALL THE WAY ACROSS Boston, and the parallel route (Huntington Ave) actually had trolley tracks and cobblestones to contend with. So it HAD to be the Jamaicaway. There were many close calls, but it was part of the commute.

One night, as he was coming home on that very road, a voice in his head said:

"How about if I knock you off that bike RIGHT NOW. Do you know where you'll go when you die?"

Who the heck are YOU? the biker asked.

"I am Jesus, The Messiah."

At that moment, the biker believed...but then he got bold.

"I'll still believe in You even if You don't answer my question," he said out loud.

"But last weekend I lost my wallet and looked everywhere. Could You find it for me?" The rest of the ride home was silent.

Now, at that same moment in Roslindale (at the other end of the Emerald Necklace), a woman musician was unpacking her gear from a gig the weekend before. As she unpacked the black tangle of microphone cables, a black wallet fell out.

"That silly husband of mine has been driving around town without his WALLET?" she mused. Oh well, I'll give it to him when he gets home."

When the Biker arrived home, she gave him the wallet and he shouted "PRAISE THE LORD!"

"Whaddaya mean 'Praise The Lord' I was the one who found the wallet!"

It was then that my husband told me his story about his "Jamaicaway Experience".

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:

And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.

But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
