Is this surprising? I seem to remember reading something about this in a book. They lived in a garden and ate apples or something.

Yep, I seem to rember their names were like Adam and Eve. I guess if God had waited until now it would have to be Adam and Evan, or at least Adam and (sex to he decided by person at later date).

I will do you one better.

These bar codes, or snippets of DNA that reside outside the nuclei of living cells, suggest that it's not just people who came from a single pair of beings, but nine out of every 10 animal species, too

*I* remember reading this book about some old guy who built a boat to save a bunch of animals from a flood.

“They lived in a garden and ate apples or something.”

That made me laugh. My cousin mentioned Adam and Eve and “the apple” to my mom once. Mom said we don’t know it was an apple; the Bible just says it was “fruit”. My cousin got angry at Mom because she KNEW it was an apple, and stayed upset for years. Of course, the only time my cousin attended church was for her wedding. My mother went to Bible college, and was a pastor’s wife for 50 years.
