An explanation given to me, with no proof or biblical reference, but which I like because of it's symbolism, goes like this.
The world became darker as mankind drifted farther from God, much like nights get longer as we approach the winter solstice. More darkness and less light in each day as we approach the solstice.
But with the birth of Christ, His light shone for all and world became brighter, much like days begin to get longer after the winter solstice. More light and less darkness in each day.
I like the imagery.

The Father does have symbolism and meaning and it can be found within the scriptures. And in His Creation..
The Bible does reference His birth.. Revelation 12.
A woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet occurs in the sky in early fall these days..
It was a sign that showed up in late summer a couple thousand years ago..
The world calls that Virgo but every year the sun is traveling through her and the moon ends up under her feet. That Revelation sign is detailing a birth a manchild tbat is caught up to Heaven..
Now that sign has occurred on different days of the world’s calendar but has been the same ‘ day’ on the Father’s calendar.
A day He taught Israel.. a day of special offerings, etc. A day, according to prophets, where markets were closed and feasts/banquets were held.
That sort of feels and sounds like an American Thanksgiving and December 25 rolled into one..
And it doesn’t happen once a year. Israel was called to do that once a month.
A day that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob put on His calendar to mark Genesis 1:1, John 1:1 and John 1:14..
That symbolizes ‘The Beginning’ and who was there ‘In the Beginning’?
He was teaching Israel His plan and His Son. They missed and still do.
But they aren’t alone. We all have been sold lies that hide Truth..
Muslims Jews and Christians would be blessed to know how the Father tells time and why.
It’s all about His Work and His Son!

Until then or until His Kingdom comes,,we have the counterfeits of December 25 and Good Friday and Easter Sunday, but Truth is marching on..

Dec 25 is also the birthday of Mithras - who is the Christ figure in Zoasterism, which was a rival of Christianity.
