Don't know what happened between this family and the coach but the Priest is correct. Unless that kid was so mentally Ill and was very far gone that he did not know what he was doing chances are he did not go to heaven and that is what the Church teaches.

He did not need to rub the grieving parents’ faces in it.

He bullied the teen against the parents’ wishes?

Headlines: Gotta love ‘em.

Wow when I first heard about this story I didn’t hear about the angle with the coach too sheesh!

This family has been through living Hell, compounded mightily by the coach’s incredibly self centered behavior and yes by the priest’s homily as well.

Was he (Father) correct, theologically, in everything he said? Yes he was. But it certainly was not the time (at the Mass for their son) to say something like that.

He’s young though he’ll learn (I note the Archdiocese assigned him a mentor for the foreseeable future. Good call).

The coach will probably continue to be an ass though.

I suspect there's more to this story than meets the eye.

The "teen" in this tragic story is 18 years old, and he was a student at the University of Toledo.

The "coach" is his former high school football coach who hasn't coached the kid in more than a year.

I’m sorry, but this priest is a dumb@ss. The time for this particular sermon is at Sunday mass, not at this kid’s funeral.

Actually that's not what the priest said.

Truthfully, I have no problem with his words.

The coach sounds like a jerk. He should have respected the family’s wishes, and remained absent and silent.

I read the Priest’s full sermon and found nothing objectionable. It contained great encouragement, as well as honest truth.

The father should have had the opportunity to speak, at least informally after the Mass had ended. I’m not sure why the Priest tried to prevent that.

That’s just a catholic teaching.

But if the coach taunted them after the funeral, and attended just to rub something in. He deserves anything that happens to him.

The priest sounds like a first class jackass. The dad even got out of his seat and asked him to please stop the service and he ignored him.

A funeral is when the family needs comfort. The idiot priest coulda preached about it next sunday and unloaded there. That was not the time.

But what does he know about family? A virgin man in a dress.

“At one stage, Maison’s father approached the pulpit and asked him to stop speaking but he continued on.

Maison’s family said the priest spoke about him as if he was a sinner +6
Maison’s family said the priest spoke about him as if he was a sinner

Maison’s mother said the priest ‘basically’ called him a ‘sinner’.

‘It was what he wanted. He said nothing about what we asked him to say’.

In addition to his hurtful homily, the priest tried to finish the service without letting Jeff get up to speak.

‘I had words prepared, but when (the priest) was done, he was going to finish mass without giving anybody else the opportunity to say anything.

‘He had the organist start playing and they were going to roll the casket out — some nerve.

‘Our funeral director by this time was at the front of the church. We had to have the funeral director walk over and stop the organist,’ he said.”

That’s a pure jackass move on the part of the priest.

The grammar is atrocious. The parents wished the coach didn’t bully their kid? Geez.

We can be thankful the New Testament teaches the Truth and not that bag of garbage that has surfaced about Roman Catholicism on this issue.

On more than occasion Christ promises that for those who believe in Him they will have eternal life.

But Rome's position on this issue has changed over time....hence my tagline.
