Here is a picture of the Praza do Obradoiro taken from the 4th floor balcony of the cathedral. The Hostal Dos Reis Catolicos is the building with the cars in front of it. It was originally built as a hospital for pilgrims and now is one of the oldest operating hotels in the world. The building to the left of it is now used as the Town Hall. As you can see there aren't many pilgrims around at this time of the year, which makes it perfect for those of us who live close enough (90 minute flight from Malaga, about 30 Euros each way) to come for a quick sightseeing visit.

I don’t know if this history is ancient enough for you but I thought you might find it slightly interesting.

I have NO idea of what the Portico is......was there a few years ago. Did you get to see the “FUMERI...sp?) in “action”?? My Jewish Husband was ENTHRALLED! What a GLORIOUS EXPERIENCE! And all the little Confessionals.

Wife and I visited several years ago. A stunningly beautiful place. Well worth the time.
