Author Holds up Martyred Copts as Model for Contemporary Christians
Crux ^ | 1/13/19 | Christopher White

NEW YORK - Four years ago this week, 21 men were videotaped on a beach in Libya as their ISIS captors beheaded them one by one. Of the 21 victims, 20 were Coptic Christians from Egypt who had migrated to Libya for work.

In his new book, The 21: A Journey into the Land of Coptic Martyrs, German novelist and poet Martin Mosebach chronicles his travels through Upper Egypt, where he met with the families and priests of the martyrs.

Mosebach spoke with Crux in New York on Monday as to why he believes Coptic Christianity offers a purer form of the faith from which modern believers should seek to learn, how the families of the martyred 21 view such deaths with reverence and honor rather than anger or a sense of injustice, and the possibility of true faith in a skeptical age.

Crux: What was it about the story of “the 21” that first captured your imagination?

Mosebach: We often hear a lot about the atrocities in the near East and the killing of Christians and persecution of Christians, but this was the rare case where the 21 who were killed had the opportunity to confess their faith and were not just victims. The way the Christian tradition would see it, they were active in their confession.

This reminded me of the old ages of Christianity in the early centuries. In fact, the Church of Egypt - the Coptic Church - is deeply connected to these early ages. You make a trip through time when you go into the Coptic Church, crossing the centuries, and finding another mentality and spirituality than yours, but still Christian - in some ways, some might say, nearer to Christianity than ours.

I believe the 21st man to be beheaded in Libya was not a Christian. But after witnessing 20 men die for the testimony of Jesus and with none escaping death by renouncing their faith the final guy said that he also would trust in Jesus and follow the example of the Christians.

We are engaged in a War with Islam! Whether we want to be or not, we are, ALL of us, combatants in their “Holy” war!

Islam declared war on ALL non-Moslems in 622, and while Mohammed was alive, no non-Moslem was safe FRom their murderous ways!

Mohammed’s death ignited the world’s longest running Hatfield-McCoy feud!

Moslems now kill each other when the question of “Who is to be considered the REAL successor to Mohammed as the TRUE leader of Islam.

The issue, festering since 632 AD, has yet to be resolved, and the Sunni and Shia (and other Moslem “denominations”) happily slaughter each other in the name of Mohammed.

Count the years this has been going on, folks! 2019-632=1387

Western Civilization is being held hostage to a 1387 year old family feud!

Not one of us is safe FRom the Islamic insanity!

Standby, my fellow FReepers!

Islam is coming for you!

You will be given a choice: convert or die!

I have read the same report - and used this several times in our Bible Studies. He was exposed to Christians for less than a day - yet gave his life to live their faith.

Who among us can offer such a witness . . .

Byzantine Emperors Constantine and Licinius established the Edict of Milan in 313 CE whereby Christians would be allowed to follow their faith without oppression. This essentially lifted the intermittent Roman persecutions that the early Christian church suffered during its first 270 years of existence.

The Art of War, 6th century BCE, Zhou Kingdom

1,394 years of world history since the Battle of Badr (70 miles SW of Medina) in 624 CE fought by the final prophet of Allah, Muhammad, “peace be upon him”, proves that the kafir (infidel/ unbeliever/ non-Muslim) cannot …

… with Sharia (religious law forming part of the Islamic tradition).

At some point, we Westerners had best come to understand that Moslems HAVE NO INTENT TO CO-EXIST WITH US!

THEY MEAN TO KILL US OR ENSLAVE US!

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

I was thinking something similar. The model of Joshua clearing out the Promised Land is more appropriate today than the model of martyrs being executed by enemies of God and of freedom.

Luke 22:36,38 “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” . . . The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That is enough!” he replied.

This is not a command for us to be warlike conquerors who center our lives on weapons (verse 38 shows this), but it clearly demonstrates that there is a time for the use of arms. Americans and Christians may have reached one of those times.

The Jizya was superseded by “convert or die.”

Islamic culture IS NOT SUITABLE for Western Civilization!

Be that as it may, Islam is incompatible with a FRee society, and Western societies are fooling themselves if they think they can coexist with Islam!
