Lent is a time for fortifying our soul and working to increase our piety. As always, our behavior reflects our thoughts; and our thoughts reflect our behavior. Thinking pious thoughts, and doing pious things brings us nearer to God. Behavioral scientists tell us we are what we think about the most. Therefore, thinking about being more pious will make us more pious.
Here are three simple things we can do to grow in piety 1) say Grace before every meal and strive to not miss once if you do just start again; 2) use a holy water to bless yourself each day upon waking and ask God for the grace that comes with doing so; 3) when receiving Holy Communion smile as you respond saying Amen! act like you are over joyed to welcome Jesus Christ into your soul and you will be.
Again, if you miss any of these steps to piety, just start over at the next opportunity.
Where do you get Holy Water?
Thanks for posting.
Good advice for Lent and daily living.
Bump
Simple and beautiful.
When I was a little girl, I heard someone say that you should say three Hail Marys before you go to sleep every night. About ten years ago, by which time I was very much an adult, I started doing so. Can’t explain why, but it has made a difference in my life. I would encourage others to do so, as well.
That’s really nice; I’m observing Lent and I think my family needs to reinstate Grace promptly.
Happy Easter!
1) say Grace before every meal and strive to not miss once if you do just start again;
Thanking God for His blessings is always good. It does not make you closer to God. You are either in Christ because youve entrusted yourself to Him alone for salvation, or you are separated from Him entirely because you are relying on your own works.
2) use a holy water to bless yourself each day upon waking and ask God for the grace that comes with doing so;
Holy water is totally bogus. It is just water and has no spiritual quality, nor ability to bring blessings. It certainly doesnt make you closer to God.
3) when receiving Holy Communion smile as you respond saying Amen! act like you are over joyed to welcome Jesus Christ into your soul and you will be.
We are commanded to take communion in rememberance of Him until He returns. Acting happy does not make you closer to God. See point #1.
Go on a spending fast. Don’t buy anything but necessities. No eating out, no money on entertainment.
Wow, money left over at the end of the month! Donate it or pay down debt. And discover you CAN budget.
You can get it free at just about any Catholic church. Bring a bottle or container to put it in. I would ask the priest permission first.
Alternatively, you can purchase Holy Water through Catholic bookstores or supply places. If you want Holy Water from a certain place like Lourdes or the Jordan River, you can probably find that online.
Stop voting democrat !
Ask Satan what he thinks of Holy Water before you dismiss it.
Stan doesnt care about water.
That was the Wicked Witch of the West...
:-)
The OT prescribes water for purification in several instances; search "lustral water" or "water of lustration". Seems like God thinks there's such a thing as holy water.
The OT prescribes...
Not for the church.
What is the proper way to use the holy water?
It is just water and has no spiritual quality, nor ability to bring blessings. It certainly doesnt make you closer to God.
The action you take was commanded by Christ.
He is spiritually present when we partake of the Lords Supper.
If you are a believer, you are closer.
Holy water is a non- Christian practice.
Where do you get Holy Water? - Any Catholic church has a holy water dispenser and remember that even one drop of holy water added to other water makes that new water holy as well so you need never run out.
Your priest should be able to help you out.
