So to revise and extend my remarks, Gregory, while reputedly a nice guy, seemingly did poorly in any classes he took on Biblical Studies, Systematic Theology, Koine Greek, etc., or he would not have made these false claims.

Perfectly said. A man who lived in ancient times, steeped to his eyeballs in the Christianity of the Greco-Roman world, even to the point of devoting his life to the study of sacred scripture, combating Donatism, serving the victims of war and famine, and advancing Christian music and worship, is denigrated because he "was a poor student of the Bible."

It is to laugh.

In his Institutes, Calvin quotes extravagantly from Gregory the Great. Funny that he would do if Gregory were all the things you say he was.
