Barcelona, Spain, Jun 10, 2019 / 04:01 pm (CNA).- After 137 years of ongoing construction, Barcelona's Sagrada Familia received a building permit Friday.
Construction on the basilica is expected to be completed in 2026.
Architect Antoni Gaudí began his work on Sagrada Familia in 1883, and in 1914 stopped all other projects to work exclusively on the basilica, to which he dedicated himself until his death in 1926.
"It was a historical anomaly that La Sagrada Familia did not have a license," said Janet Sanz, deputy mayor for Ecology, Urbanism and Mobility, according to NPR.
"They were working on the church in a very irregular way," she said. "And we were very clear that, like everyone else, La Sagrada Familia should comply with the law."
A permit had been applied for in 1885, but the citys council never responded to the application. Three years ago, the authorities discovered that the building did not have the proper paperwork.

Government efficiency for you!
My RINO ran NJ town is doing the same thing, anytime a house is sold, if something doesn’t have a zoning AND building permit, it has to either get one or be demolished. They are going after sheds, decks, pools, finished basements etc. The problem, the town had a fire in the record department and many of these permits were lost, if you didn’t keep your copy, you are so screwed.

government in action or government inaction
I visited there in April and about 5 years ago. Very cool
La Sagrada Familia the wind has changed the storm is over
La Sagrada Familia for the lion and the lamb.

I saw it about 10 years ago. Seeing the workmen at work on scaffolding wasy up there was fun.
If you haven't seen what it about, do an image search - exterior, interior, and scaffolds. The man hours must be astronomical.
Also look at other Gaudi images. Strange and amazing creations. This article shows some other examples:

Too bad, though, because some a-hole muzzlems will blow up the Sagrada Familia before long.
How do the city inspectors gain access to a house that’s been sold to inspect it for violations? The California government does not have that right.
My daughter and I drove around Southern France, Spain and Portugal after she finished her studies in the Netherlands. Barcelona was one of our absolutely favorite stops. We didn’t book early enough for a tour but just seeing the cathedral from the outside was very awe-inspiring. Photographs just don’t do it justice.
Funny you mentioned The Alan Parsons Project. I just got introduced to the group in a stereo speaker review a couple days ago. The reviewer was using a track from iRobot to evaluate the speakers.
Continue Certificate of Occupancy, it is about $250 and has to be obtained at sale (unless the property is vacant/no structures, commercial or abandoned/foreclosure)
Wow, that sure gives them license to tear you and your house apart. It sounds like they are no longer happy to just collect their $250, but want to run you through the wringer to collect permit fees for old, unpermitted work.
If it’ll make you feel better in my county in MO there is no zoning, no building permits required, no inspections. If you own the land you can build whatever you want on it. Now if you borrow money to build, the bank will have a say. When I told my late father-in-law from Northern Ill. about it, he refused to believe me.
I got to see them live at EPCOT a few years ago. They still Rock it.

Yes, there are still a few free places in the United States.
Zoning was pushed on most of the country by the Federal Government.
In a referendum in 1976, Yuma county voted down zoning.
A year later, the County board passed zoning anyway, because they could not get Federal funds without zoning.
Zoning is the closest thing to local tyranny that exists in the United States.
