basically people today give the creation of civilization credit to Islam and give the hate/intolerance/conquest credit to Christianity
The truth is of course precisely the opposite
Islam destroyed civilization. Its rampages left only a small fraction of ancient libraries unburnt. There was no prosperous agrarian Nortth Africa after Islam depopulated whole regions. Whatever civilization there had been in subsaharan Africa was carted off into slavery, especially by the Mali. They looted whatever was promising from anywhere they could for the Baghdad “golden age”.
But after centuries of murder, conquest, slaving, piracy and mayhem Islam did finally uniquely gave the world ... a philosophy that denied cause and effect. The mailiaise in the near East that came once they’d been stopped and pushed back and then sat simmering in their own Islamity resulted in a vast Ottoman empire that slowly succumbed beneath its own weight.
There was a reason why Ataturk was able to convince other Muslims to build a secular State.
