Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalm 32

Psalm 32

Of David. A maskil.[a]1

Blessed is the one
    whose transgressions are forgiven,
    whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the one
    whose sin the Lord does not count against them
    and in whose spirit is no deceit.

3 When I kept silent,
    my bones wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night
    your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
    as in the heat of summer.[b]

5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you
    and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
    my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
    the guilt of my sin.

6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
    while you may be found;
surely the rising of the mighty waters
    will not reach them.
7 You are my hiding place;
    you will protect me from trouble
    and surround me with songs of deliverance.

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
9 Do not be like the horse or the mule,
    which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
    or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
    but the Lord’s unfailing love
    surrounds the one who trusts in him.

11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
    sing, all you who are upright in heart!

Almighty God,
Holy, Blessed, and Sanctified
is Your Most Wonderful Name!
You Alone Are Worthy to Be Praised and Worshiped,
for You Alone are The One True God!
We Come Before You in Awe and trembling,
as we see Your Holy Word coming to life right before our eyes.
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
according to Your Will and Promise. We Pray for Our Own leaders in the USA,
that their eyes will be opened,
That their ears will be unstopped,
And that they will be enlightened by Your Word
with regards to Your people Israel.
We Pray for and end to antisemitism, slander,
propaganda, and lies against Your people.
We Pray That The Jewish People will have control over their Holy Places
and be free to worship there in Peace.

We Pray for Messiah to Come Quickly,
And for the Sun of Righteousness
to Rise over us With healing in His Wings!
Comfort and protect our Brethren held captive in Muslim Lands,
and abolish the evil practice of slavery
and hostage taking and piracy everywhere, we pray.
Hallelujah and Amen

For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The structure of this Psalm is pretty modern. It has an Intro, three Stanzas, a Bridge, and a Coda. It could very easily be adapted to music because its lines are very regular. The Theme is Penitential, confessing sin and rejoicing in God's Forgiveness. It also has Godly Instruction in the Bridge, making it a Didactic Psalm. It is, though, primarily an exuberant outburst of Praise for God and His Great Mercy. Let's start with the Intro:

Blessed is the one
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord does not count against them
and in whose spirit is no deceit.

This is the exact opposite of many penitential songs, which often start out with the sin, rather than the forgiveness. ("I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore", etc). Now, I am not denigrating the Old Hymns, because a lot of modern penitential songs start out the same way, with four measures of plodding 4/4 chords on the piano followed by SELF revelation. These, of course, have their place, but David chooses a different story arc. He STARTS his song Praising God. His confession is in the first Stanza:

3 When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night
your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.

Un-confessed sin is like a poison that eats away at a person, body and soul. Ask any doctor, even a non-believer, and he will tell you that STRESS is one of the main causes of disease. The stress caused by suppressing and covering up a deep-rooted sin can cause a person to become mentally ill. It can also cause physical ailments like ulcers and colitis. David is definitely onto something!

The next Stanza speaks of the release of confessing our sins to God:

5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
the guilt of my sin.

Confession is AGREEING with God that "sin is sin". It does not include equivocating, rationalizing, excusing, or otherwise DISAGREEING with God about sin. Sin is sin, no matter what the prevailing culture says. And, admitting that is sometimes the hardest thing to do.

Next, we see the results of God's Forgiveness:

6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
while you may be found;
surely the rising of the mighty waters
will not reach them.
7 You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.

One of the Descriptive Names of God comes from this Stanza. The idea of God as a "Hiding Place", surrounded by Songs of Deliverance, is and absolutely gorgeous metaphor.

Next, we have the Bridge, which turns this from a personal song of repentance into a Didactic Psalm:

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
9 Do not be like the horse or the mule,
which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
but the Lord’s unfailing love
surrounds the one who trusts in him.

Now the Voice is teaching the People. It is the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so it is God talking to the People through the voice of David. The Lord tells us that we are not just other creatures in the Animal Kingdom who need to be trained with bit and bridle. We are not unreasoning brutes who only live by instinct. God has made us "a little lower than the angels (Psalm 8)", and have been given rational, reasoning minds to either sin or repent. The rewards of repentance are eternal, and God's love is unfailing.

Finally, there is this awesome Coda:

11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart!

This is a Song, that sings about singing, and rejoices in being surrounded by songs of deliverance, and praises God for His Unfailing Love.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

LESSED is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

5 I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart. ________________________________________________Psalm 32 (KJV)

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
