Chiefs Lineman Ahead of Super Bowl: ‘God’s Timing Is Always Perfect’

The Super Bowl is just days away, and while there’s a heavy haze over the country right now after the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and 7 others, the players are still getting ready for the biggest game of their careers.

Media is everywhere and it’s a chance for Christian athletes to use the platform to spread their faith. Chiefs offensive linemen Stefen Wisniewski shared his faith in Jesus while talking to Jason Romano from Sports Spectrum.

When asked about what the Lord has been doing in his life this year, Wisniewski didn’t hesitate to elaborate.

“It was really humbling being fired, being on the couch,” he began, referencing his time in between jobs after the Eagles let him go. “I really think God was testing me and trying to teach me humility, just to depend on Him,” he continued. “At the end of the day, my football success is only because God has given it to me. I love Job 1:21, ‘naked I came into this world, naked I will depart. The Lord gives the Lord takes away blessed be the name of the Lord.'”

Wisniewski talked some more about what this verse from Job means to him.

“I came into this world with nothing I’m going to leave this world with nothing everything I have while I’m here is a gift from God. When it’s taken away from you is when you remember that,” he told Romano. “We can start to think it’s us when things are going well for a while. I think that’s why God gives us trials like that, to help us remember it’s all from Him. From Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever,” he said, citing Romans 11:36.

The veteran lineman talked further about God’s sovereignty over all things, including those down times when we can’t see the forest through the trees.

“At the end of the day, it’s been amazing to see that God can do whatever He wants. We can forget that sometimes, right? While we’re waiting we’re like, ‘ah, God, what are you doing?’ But, He can do whatever He wants. He’s all powerful. At the end of the day, it’s our job to humble ourselves before him, follow him, obey him and wait for his timing. His timing is always perfect.”

What a great perspective! He’ll be going for another Super Bowl victory this Sunday to add to his previous victorious trip with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017.

I’m proud that a lot of the Chiefs players are good Christians, Mahomes, Harrison Butker, etc, as is Clark Hunt. Just go win the Super Bowl.

Before the conga line of people post, professing that they don't follow football, they don't care about football, or they don't have a TV come along...

...Let us remember that their are LOTS of decent people in any profession that don't often get attention. When the Eagles won the SB, Coach Peterson praised his Lord and Savor Jesus Christ on national TV.

To be sure, the NFL has problems and bad actors and horrible commissioners. But just like America didn't suck under Obama, let's acknowledge the moral men amongst the citizens of the football franchises.

Very refreshing to see a talented young man feed off the vast abundance of wisdom in God’s Word. Humility is a forgotten virtue in our world. It’s the polar opposite from popular culture’s “wisdom” that everything is about “MEEEEEEEE”!!!!!!!

Very well said, but Stefen Wisniewski is the type of player I can’t stand; the type whom I can remember when his father and uncle played. Ugh. Same thing goes for Clay Matthews, the Mannings, and several others. But seriously, he’s one of the good guys.
