WASHINGTON, D.C., February 26, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) President Donald Trump issued a public statement Wednesday to Catholics and Christians, telling them that he was joining them in prayer during their observance of Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent which leads to the celebration of Christs resurrection at Easter.
For Catholics and many other Christians, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season that concludes with the joyful celebration of Easter Sunday, the president said. Today, millions of Christians will be marked on their foreheads with the sign of the cross. The imposition of ashes is an invitation to spend time during Lent fasting, praying, and engaging in acts of charity.
This powerful and sacred tradition reminds us of our shared mortality, Christs saving love, and the need to repent and accept the Gospel more fully, he continued. We join in prayer with everyone observing this holy day and wish you a prayerful Lenten journey. May you grow closer to God in your faith during this blessed season.
For social conservatives, Trumps friendliness to religion and religious causes has been a pleasant surprise of his presidency, given his adulterous past and former support for abortion.
Religious liberty has been a priority of the Trump administration, from lifting the Obama administrations contraception mandate to establishing a White House office tasked with fielding the concerns of religious Americans and monitoring threats as they arise. Last month, the administration released a guidance affirming students have the right to pray in public schools.
Hes someone who really believes in the power of prayer, Vice President Mike Pence has previously said of Trump, revealing that the president regularly asks to open White House meetings with prayer.

Thanks for posting. When has an American president EVER said anything like this. God bless him!
I went to Church at 6:30 am mass and I lost count of the number of Catholics who were happy for me with the ashed on my head to remind them of mass or who started up a conversation about their Ash Wednesday church plans.
It is a great tradition.

Trump is the most pro-life president since Reagan, and is a fearless defender of our religious liberty. And yet the pope trashes our Prez every chance he gets.
It was nice to see so many on FOX with their ashes!
He is a mortal jerk. I cannot tolerate the guy, but he is not who I celebrate in church. Otherwise Id quit.
I’m with you on that, Amen!

Melania and I wish everyone observing Ash Wednesday a peaceful and prayerful day.

I never understood some of these holidays. Jesus died on Passover, not the pagan day Easter. He rose from the grave on First Fruits, not the pagan day Easter. What is Lent? Why go nuts on Mardi Gras only to repent on Lent? None of this is in the Bible. In fact, the “Sunrise Service” is in Eze 8:16 as an “abomination” to God. Christmas on Dec 25 celebrates the death of the son of Nimrod and the women wept for him in Eze 8:14. Tammuz might have been called Osiris by the Egyptians. His name was Adonis in Greece. It certainly had nothing to do with Christ Jesus or the Bible. All of this comes from the whore of Babylon religion out of Rome, not the Bible. She changed the Leviticus 23 Feast Days to Pagan days and changed the Biblical calendar to the Gregorian calendar. She changed the days of the week and the months to pagan gods names. She changed the 7th Day Sabbath that God commands in the 4th Commandment to Sunday, the day Pagans worshiped the sun. Jesus said in Matthew 5 that not one jot or tittle would change from the Law until the end of Heaven and earth. That means we are commanded to follow Leviticus 23 and not pagan gods. At some point you have to admit you are following pagans and idols set up by the spirit of Antichrist. Now it has become the traditions of men, not the Law of God.
BTTT!
Exactly what do you celebrate in church?
It doesn’t sound like it’s life, liberty and an inalienable right to happiness.
Notice that life comes first.
Why don’t you tolerate Trump — a wonderful pro-life president?
Hes talking about the Pope.
I loveTrump - it is the Pope I cannot tolerate.
I said I didn’t like the pope trashing our pro-life, pro-religious liberty President Trump. Not sure why you thought I don’t tolerate Trump.

I wonder about that regarding Roman Catholics....some of the nastiest posters I've seen on these threads.
