Greenville is in the Mississippi Delta. It started changing in the 1980’s, more crime, and also many young people who had left for college never came back. The town lost its towboat industry. Eventually many longtime residents moved away too (mostly because of the crime issues).

It turned from a conservative majority to a Democrat voter majority. Thus, the change in leadership and continual decline of a once-great town.

Greenville is in the heart of the Mississippi delta and is virtually all democrat. The mayor is a radical leftist.

The delta is a different demographic than most of the rest of the state and doesn't vote the same. Google the 2016 presidential election results by county and you'll see what I mean. The delta doesn't reflect the rest of the state which is mostly conservative and republican. The delta is hard core democrat and extremely impoverished. It's one of the most dysfunctional areas in the country.

Governor is, I think. Mayor is not. Thus the issue. https://www.startribune.com/mayor-drive-in-church-with-windows-up-ok-during-pandemic/569677832/
