Hagia Sophia, Turkish Ayasofya, Latin Sancta Sophia, also called Church of the Holy Wisdom or Church of the Divine Wisdom, cathedral built at Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) in the 6th century ce (532537) under the direction of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I. By general consensus, it is the most important Byzantine structure and one of the worlds great monuments.

Christians, normally we are on the same side and I don't like calling you out, but don't, don't let this stand.
You are turning the other cheek right into irrelevance.

Is anyone surprised. Under Jorge Bergoglio, Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops throughout the world have come out of hiding, and the vast majority have shown themselves to be gutless wonders who are anything but Roman Catholic. Close your wallets and purses to these faux Catholics.

First, it is obscene that the Turks may do this. However, this statement at the end of the blurb gave me a chuckle:
UNESCO, which declared Hagia Sophia a World Heritage site in 1985, confirmed that a change in the monuments use would require international consultation.
No it doesn't. The Turks can do whatever they want, and there isn't a damn thing UNESCO can do to even slow it down.

Let’s not be too hard on Christians in Turkey. They are a whittled down hated minority & Erdogan can sic the Muslim mobs on them in an instant to burn their remaining churches and kill as many as possible.
The Turkish bishops’ statement can be read between the lines: “We’re hostages in our own country and there’s nothing we can do about it, except try not to bring Erdogan’s wrath down on us.”

It may be of interest to the discussion that Hagia Sofia is right on a big earthquake fault. Sooner or later the whole thing will fall down, and it's something of a miracle that it hasn't already. It has huge fissures in the structure. It could be the Christians have thought about that, and the Muslims have not.

Of course not. Christians like to turn their limitless supply of other cheeks and Muslims like to slap them.

Why now, its been the way it is for maybe 100 years, not a church, not a mosque. That was a good compromise.

Didn’t Turkey slaughter brutally 2 million Christians not too long ago?

Exactly. A statement clearly made under duress should not be taken at face value.

Hey wait a minute, isn’t Hagia Sophia an Eastern Orthodox Cathedral? The Roman Catholics have no business giving the Turks permission!

Hagia Sophia is a Catholic Church; may it return to its former status.

I guess we know which side these “bishops” are on. Did they collect their 30 pieces of silver or did they do it for free?

Did they get 30 pieces of silver in return for their endorsement?

Spooky that we posted almost the exact same thing at almost the exact same time.
