California Mission Vandalized with ‘Native Land’ Graffiti

Police are investigating the vandalism of Mission San Jose in Fremont, California as a hate crime.

In a July 4 statement, police confirmed that someone painted “Native Land” in red paint on the mission during the night.

“The Fremont Police Department takes these matters seriously and will dedicate appropriate resources to this investigation. Fremont does not tolerate hate and will ask the Alameda County District Attorney to fully prosecute those who are found responsible for this crime,” the statement said.

Several volunteers spent their July 4 holiday cleaning up the vandalism, according to The Mercury News.

“This is a Catholic Church, this is where I pray,” Andrew Galvan told the newspaper. “Not only is this vandalism, this is desecration of a sacred site.”

Mission San Jose was founded by Spanish Franciscan Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen in 1797, the 14th Spanish Mission to be established in California.

Time to start renaming all of the California cities named after the Spanish Missions.

"Time to start renaming all of the California cities named after the Spanish Missions."

And bulldozing the missions themselves as hurtful reminders of Spanish colonialism. (Unfortunately, today's sarcasm is often tomorrow's reality.)

Is the FBI investigating this hate crime?

May not be sarcasm. I thought I read that they were taking down statues of Junipero Serra due to his colonizing of the state and beating down of the "docile" people he found on his way.

Ban Spanish altogether, the conquerors imposed it on native peoples.

So, if we start giving into this “Native Land” crap, how many square inches of America will be left?

The land was ceded by treaty to the US from Mexico. Mexico gained its independence from Spain. Take your protest to Madrid.

The wife and I spent time up in Canada several years ago and they were in this period of self flagellation over the eskimos or “indigenous peoples” Their TV stations were filled with Inuit celebrations. We happened past one of them and it looked like a Hillary rally, a bunch of old and young single women clapping for the overweight people dancing in pelts.
Every station had Inuit TV shows and they were all themed about the raw deal they received.

We’re heading in that direction IMO.

You'd think the Church would have anticipated this, and increased security, in light of recent "events"?🙄

The “Natives” just took the land from Og and Gork.

How sad.

When we lived in Fremont, Mission San Jose was our church. It was beautiful in its antiqueness.

No, we need this part of history to still be alive.

Find the Novena of St. Junipero Serra and read through it.

We should all just agree that the world would be better off if Europeans had not discovered North America and it had been left to the tender mercies of fratricidal hunter gatherers (leavened by the occasional farmer).
