The comment was made during an article published in opposition to Israel's plan to extend sovereignty over parts of the West Bank.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ECLA) has spoken out against Israel's plan to annex parts of the West Bank in a series of articles published on their website, one of which additionally accuses Israel of having had a part in the murder of George Floyd.
The comment was made in an article that mentioned a letter that the ECLA, along with 26 other churches, sent to the US congress in opposition to the annexation plan. The letter demanded that the US government not provide funds for the recognition, facilitation or support of annexation.
"For example, 100 Minneapolis police officers received counterterrorism training from Israelis at a conference held in 2012."...
Another comment associating Israel with Floyd's murder amid opposition to annexation was made during a letter published by Kathryn Mary Lohre, Assistant to the Presiding Bishop of the ELCA and Executive for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations & Theological Discernment on the ECLA's website.
In her letter, she compared Israel's treatment of the Palestinians to the death of George Floyd, who died after a police officer pressed down on Floyd's neck with his knee for nearly eight minutes.
Lohre wrote: "The racism that has kneeled on the necks of Black Americans for 400 years is part of the same global pandemic as the racism that has been kneeling on the necks of Palestinians for 53 years of military occupation, and that has been even more suffocating under Israels nation state law, adopted in 2018."

this comment by Kate isn’t doctrine in the Evangelical lutheran group either.
What do you mean “confessional Lutheran Church”?
well the SBC points out that you hold to consubstantiation.
Billyboy The ELCA is BY FAR the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States. Perhaps the "real" Lutherans need to do a better PR job, then.
The "no true Scotsman" argument is logical fallacy
confessional Lutheran Church or those that hold to the Augsburg confession - one of the founding documents of the Lutheran Church. Basically the conservative synods that have not gone off the rails.
We are in the business of worshipping our Savior and spreading the Gospel, not PR. The LCMS president has regularly released position papers in abortion and the like. The curious can find things at LCMS.org. just because the ELCA is the largest body does not mean they are right or that they hold to Lutheran orthodoxy
They may be welcoming but inside is doctrine straight from the pit of hell including pro abortion pro gay marriage female clergy apostasy
We believe that in with and under the bread and wine one receives the true Body and Blood of our Savior. In short we simply believe what Christ says about His Supper. We do not believe the bread and wine cease to exist as such, we do not worship the elements, and we do not believe. that communion is a continuous resacrifice of Christ - we just take a Him at His word when He says this is
The Book of Concord includes seven writings composed by Luther and others. Lutheran churches around the world have affirmed these writings, and the ELCA affirms them in its governing documents. Lutherans most often use them in teaching for example, when the Small Catechism is used in basic Christian instruction, or when the Augsburg Confession is used to teach women and men preparing for ministry. They seem to be confessional as much as the LCMS or WELS
And the SBC holds that you are wrong - those are not the True Body and Blood but just bread and grape juice.
They may say so they do not. They would t know the augsburg confession. or book of concord if it bit them
Ok the sbc may have its beliefs I am speaking to what Lutherans believe.
* as of August 19, AD 2009, a liberal protestant SECT, not part of the holy, catholic and apostolic CHURCH.
Be rooted in Christ!
George Floyd died of drugs while resisting arrest. Israel of course had nothing to do with it! PHOOEY!!!!
That makes more sense.
The ELCA says it holds to the Augsburg confession ELCA.org

I can claim to be Generalissimo Francisco Franco, but that doesn’t make it true.
I’ve been a member of a few ELCA churches, and I heard that their leadership passes resolutions that express their liberal views. However, I’m surprised that any of their members think there’s a connection between Israel and Floyd. In 1994, when my dad was an ELCA pastor, he said that the majority of ELCA members were Republicans and that the majority of ELCA pastors were Democrats. He didn’t know the reason for the difference. Now, my parents are members of an LCMC church.
It’s Friday.
My rye is chilling, getting ready for a long night of sipping on the deck.
I do not believe I have enough whiskey or time to figure this one out.
My God, they have gone mad. And I apologize to true madman from throwing them into the same camp as the ELCA. Which is neither evangelcial, lutheran, or a church.
Maybe the reason for all those lib pastors were the draft dodgers who infested the seminaries during Vietnam.
