this comment by Kate isn’t doctrine in the Evangelical lutheran group either.

What do you mean “confessional Lutheran Church”?

Charles Henrickson As always, do not confuse the ELCA with real Lutherans.

Billyboy The ELCA is BY FAR the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States. Perhaps the "real" Lutherans need to do a better PR job, then.

The "no true Scotsman" argument is logical fallacy

confessional Lutheran Church or those that hold to the Augsburg confession - one of the founding documents of the Lutheran Church. Basically the conservative synods that have not gone off the rails.

We are in the business of worshipping our Savior and spreading the Gospel, not PR. The LCMS president has regularly released position papers in abortion and the like. The curious can find things at LCMS.org. just because the ELCA is the largest body does not mean they are right or that they hold to Lutheran orthodoxy

We believe that in with and under the bread and wine one receives the true Body and Blood of our Savior. In short we simply believe what Christ says about His Supper. We do not believe the bread and wine cease to exist as such, we do not worship the elements, and we do not believe. that communion is a continuous resacrifice of Christ - we just take a Him at His word when He says “this is”

The ELCA says it holds to the Augsburg confession ELCA.org
The Book of Concord includes seven writings composed by Luther and others. Lutheran churches around the world have affirmed these writings, and the ELCA affirms them in its governing documents. Lutherans most often use them in teaching — for example, when the Small Catechism is used in basic Christian instruction, or when the Augsburg Confession is used to teach women and men preparing for ministry.
They seem to be confessional as much as the LCMS or WELS

And the SBC holds that you are wrong - those are not the True Body and Blood but just bread and grape juice.

I’ve been a member of a few ELCA churches, and I heard that their leadership passes resolutions that express their liberal views. However, I’m surprised that any of their members think there’s a connection between Israel and Floyd. In 1994, when my dad was an ELCA pastor, he said that the majority of ELCA members were Republicans and that the majority of ELCA pastors were Democrats. He didn’t know the reason for the difference. Now, my parents are members of an LCMC church.

It’s Friday.

My rye is chilling, getting ready for a long night of sipping on the deck.

I do not believe I have enough whiskey or time to figure this one out.

My God, they have gone mad. And I apologize to true madman from throwing them into the same camp as the ELCA. Which is neither evangelcial, lutheran, or a church.

Maybe the reason for all those lib pastors were the draft dodgers who infested the seminaries during Vietnam.
