Junipero Serra Statue Smashed by Vandals [Malibu]
The Malibu Times ^ | 8/15/20 | Miles Campbell

Posted on 08/19/2020 6:42:00 PM PDT by marshmallow

The Junipero Serra statue at the Serra Retreat Center in Malibu was discovered to be vandalized the night of Aug. 6.

The statue was smashed and broken in half with the priest’s head laying at the base of the statue.

Serra is an 18th century Franciscan Friar who led the development of the California mission system during the period of Spanish colonization. In 2015, the Friar was controversially canonized by the Roman Catholic Church.

A Junipero Serra statue in downtown Los Angeles was similarly brought to the ground by activists on June 20, who reasoned that the statue represented social controversies including mass incarceration and enslavement.

Residents of the Serra Retreat neighborhood were disappointed and disturbed with the vandalism. Resident Anne Payne cited the crime in this “place of peace” to be “malicious, especially knowing that someone had planned and sneaked in.”

With all of this Hoop La.. I took the time to actually read, step by step, the life of this guy. He wasn’t worthy to be looked upone with such contempt. Flaws, he had, and mistakes he made, but doesn’t deserved to be treated so cruely. He did a lot of good...for California.

The Left hates people of Faith. They will come for Catholics first because they are so visible. Leftists will come for us all, this is just the first step.

A brave man. Made the equivalent of traveling from Spain to Mars and brought Christianity.
When he landed in Mexico, his status allowed him to ride to Mexico city. He walked...
His senior status in his order would have let him take a leadership position. He insisted on his first year or so to live the harsh life and hard work of the lowest student in the monastery.

It’s BS to judge someone like him by todays values.

Shameful

Be Honest Serra was a bad guy. Imagine being an indian and not wanting to work/convert. Then a Spaniard comes up to you and asks:” Do you want to live?”.

The left’s icons should be targeted. No statues of Communists. No tolerance for Che the a**ho** teeshirts etc. No taxpayer dollars to universities that promote Marxism. Solzhenitsyn ‘s Gulag Archipelago should be required reading in high school - and treated as much more important that Shakespeare. We are at war with delusional pinheads.

According to Wikipedia, he traveled about 24,000 miles while President of the California Missions, about 5,000 on foot, on a chronically painful leg. He advocated to the Spanish government for the humane treatment of the Indians. Hearing of Valley Forge, he took up a collection for the Continental Army. A great man. St. Junípero Serra, pray for us and the reconversion of this place you loved so much!

America failed. I really wonder how long the Founders gave it as maybe some had a few beers in a Philadelphia tavern after the signing.

The Gulag book was long and dry. H.S. brains have short attention spans. “Animal Farm’ was 130 pages. Farenheight 451 was 159. Bang for shallow thought.

Seeing the light and being brought to Christ ain’t a bad thing. If you can convert ONE soul you’ve done what Jesus wanted. If you convert thousands your ok in my book.

That’s complete bullshit Democrat propaganda. The reason Sarah was sent to California to take over was from an abusive governor who was brutal with the Indians. He changed the rule that nobody but one of his priests could discipline Indians.
A little bit harsh by our standards today, but he was a good decent pious man of his era. We also make sure Indians were excluded from the inquisition wherever he went.

Try not to buy into that leftist revisionism

There was currently no report as to whether the vandalism at the Serra Retreat Center was politically charged or not.

And there won't be one, nor will it be recorded as a hate crime.

I’m not a Catholic, but there’s very few people out there fit to shine his shoes. He deserves a little bit of respect for his memory. The people who destroyed that statue are nothing but human garbage compared to that brave man.

Drunk and stoned is no way to go through life.
Unfortunately that’s what a lot of this vandalism comes down to.

Father Serra is not the real target of these atavist. Destruction of Christianity, in this case Catholicism, is.
