In 2011, Mitchell, along with her now ex-husband, joined the Woodland Hills Church an evangelist megachurch in St. Paul, Minnesota which opened her eyes to the possibility of gender equality within the faith.
It blew my mind, she recalled of her first visit to the holy house. Every Sunday, Mitchell was the first in line to ask the pastor a question after the sermon.
One of my pastors said Nikole, did you realize that youre a theologian? And they said, Wed like you to be one of our pastors, she recalled. To be on stage in front of thousands of people thats what I had been dreaming of for years.
Megachurch. It figures.
She had no theological training, and they made her a pastor.
I'd bet money it's a seeker sensitive church. More focused on presentation than substance.

Dr.Greg Boyd founded Woodland Hills. He was a very popular professor when I was in college. I had him for one class in which he gave his testimony. I remember few of the details about his conversion to Christianity. At the time it seemed that half of his congregation were Bethel students. I attended once-I remember many details from his sermon on spiritual warfare and demonic possession even after all these years. He was a very dynamic and powerful speaker. The church grew rapidly.
In later years I saw that he slipped further and further from traditional church doctrine, and I believe his parting with Bethel College was not amicable.
