While two-thirds of Americans profess to be Christians, only 10% hold to a Biblical worldview

On the surface of recent polls, Christianity may seem alive and well in the United States. They say around 65% of Americans identify as Christians. But digging a little deeper reveals that not all is as it seems. According to podcaster and author Natasha Crain, a mere 10% of the population actually understand or engages in a Biblical worldview.

Watch the show on Locals or listen to it on Apple Podcasts.

Crain is a national speaker, author of three books with a fourth on the way, and blogger whose passion is to equip Christian parents to raise kids with an understanding of how to make a case for and defend their faith in an increasingly secular world. Whether you have young kids, teens, adult kids or grandkids, you’ll find resources here to better equip you for the challenges of discipleship today.

According to Crain, one of the challenges we face in this nation is spreading the Gospel faithfully and Biblically when there are so many professing Christians who are embracing a progressive, secular worldview. She is a kind person and therefore her stance on addressing the issue is far more patient and loving than mine would be, so it’s a good thing her books are coming out while I just rant on the podcast.

On the latest episode of the NOQ Report, I had an excellent conversation with Crain about these various challenges. I asked her if progressivism in the church is a threat to the nation.

“I would consider it a ‘confusion’ because you have a lot of people who are taking on the same label for themselves and saying ‘we’re Christian’ but it’s very confusing when they hold some very different beliefs than Christians have historically held,” she said.

Many of us have seen a growing “wokeness” in American churches. We’ve written about it many times here at NOQ Report as well as our brothers and sisters at Gatekeepers Online. Apostacy and heretical teachings have crept into modern day Christianity and led many to the false belief in ideas like Neo-Marxism, Critical Race Theory, and Bible-as-a-self-help-book mentality. We saw this on full display yesterday when “Reverend” Raphael Warnock posted his perspectives on Easter.

The problem is understandable when we realize many who claim to be Christians do not believe in a Biblical worldview.

Crain spelled this out with statistics. “About 65% of Americans will say that they are Christian, but if you actually do the research around what they believe, just asking them ‘do you believe in one sovereign God and do you believe that Jesus is God,’—basic truths that are taught in the Bible—researchers have found that only about 10% of Americans have a Biblical worldview.”

As long as a majority of professing Christians in America do not treat the Bible as the inerrant word of God, we will not be able to break through the many challenges we have as a nation.

RE: only 10% hold to a Biblical worldview

The moment people encounter certain commands or principles in the Bible that conflict with the lifestyle they want, they rationalize the Bible away or simply say that it’s a manmade opinion that has no bearing on how they live.

*THAT* is the kind of Christianity many self-professed Christians practice.

Notice how she jumps right to the crux of the matter — do you believe Jesus is God?

I do that all the time.

Most people who CALL themselves Christian do not know that Jesus is God.

What pare of “many are called, but few are chosen” didn’t you understand?

I’ve met some people who make exceptions to the 10 commandments.

For example, they say they had a difficult childhood, so it’s hard to honor their father and mother when they become adults, and talk of how their parents just aren’t good people.

And I recall a conversation with someone, who.had been caught up in adultery, who said consenting adults doing something is not the same as killing someone.

Those who claim to be Christian, but unrepentantly voted for Demonicrat political candidates are blatant hypocrites.

Sadly, this is not surprising. In Titus 5:9, Paul admonished that (a pastor/elder): “He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.” [ESV] Pastors and elders need to rebuke those who persist in non-biblical doctrine.

Part of the problem is that different people have different ideas about just what the correct “Biblical worldview“ is.

Person A’s viewpoint is different than Person B’s. And each person can defend his position with scripture. So Person A doesn’t see Person B as a “true” Christian, and vice versa.

I’m not saying that the author of the article is wrong. I’m just pointing out something I see frequently among my friends and family.

I often hear: "I consider myself to be a Christian"...

You are either dead, or alive - there is no middle ground.

Considering the moral climate in this country, that sounds about right.

Wheat and Tares.
God has been drawing all sorts of lines in the sand over the past few years.
It’s why we are told “few” find the narrow gate.

While its true that adultery is not as heinous a crime as intentional murder, you can’t get into heaven even if you just lied one time and didn’t seek Jesus as the propitiation for your one-time-only sin. Break one command and they all are broken. Don’t repent and seek God’s forgiveness and you don’t go to heaven either. We must be holy as God is holy and Jesus is the only way to become holy.

I had a challenging childhood. Enough that there was a time where my mother and I hated each other.

I knew it was wrong. Still struggled with it. Didn’t make excuses for it.

Same time what she did was wrong. She later realized it and said so.

Even in the bad times, we both knew there was sin.

I have family with same sex attraction disorder. They are also Christians, and struggle with it. They have fallen, but repent and get back up.

The 10 commandments are simple but extremely hard. Our whole society is based off of covetousness for starters.

All Joking aside, we shouldn't be okay with this. But how to fix it? It's not like Americans aren't exposed to the gospel.

A Biblical worldview: We are all sinners. Jesus died in our place. We need only believe and accept His redeeming Grace.

More mile markers for the road we’re on.

Long ago, 2 Timothy 3:1-9 described us and these times now, even Christians, too, those “having a form of godliness but denying its power.”

In one of his sermons about false idols, I think, Adrian Rogers was saying that many don’t read or believe what the Bible says, including about Jesus.

Though they say they believe in Jesus, they don’t know what the Bible actually says, and, of those who do, some don’t believe all it says.

Instead, those people have made and worship a false idol of their own knowledge, rather than worshiping the true God: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in Scripture.
