Daily Mass Gospel Reflection - Bodily Attractions

THIRD WEEK OF EASTER

JOHN 6:52–59

Friends, today’s Gospel declares that the Word really became flesh. Why has the Incarnation been resisted from the very beginning? Why is the extension of the Incarnation, which is the Eucharist, still such a source of division?

I think it has to do with flesh. God became one of us, as close to us as blood and muscle and bone. It is no longer correct to say simply that God is in his heaven and we are on the earth. It is not correct to say simply that God is spirit and we are matter. Matter has been invaded by spirit. In Jesus, God became flesh, and, more to the point, he invites us to eat his Body and drink his Blood. But that means that he wants us to take him into ourselves.

“Now, wait a minute!” many people think. “That’s a little too close for comfort, for it means that he wants to be Lord of my flesh and my bones, that he wants to move into every nook and cranny of my life. My work, my recreation, my sexual life, my life of play—all those fleshy things that I do—he wants to be Lord of all of that!” That’s precisely right.

The Didache(c. 90 A.D.)

But concerning the Eucharist, after this fashion give ye thanks.

First, concerning the cup. We thank thee, our Father, for the holy vine, David thy Son, which thou hast made known unto us through Jesus Christ thy Son; to thee be the glory for ever.

And concerning the broken bread. We thank thee, our Father, for the life and knowledge which thou hast made known unto us through Jesus thy Son; to thee be the glory for ever.

As this broken bread was once scattered on the mountains, and after it had been brought together became one, so may thy Church be gathered together from the ends of the earth unto thy kingdom; for thine is the glory, and the power, through Jesus Christ, for ever.

And let none eat or drink of your Eucharist but such as have been baptized into the name of the Lord, for of a truth the Lord hath said concerning this, Give not that which is holy unto dogs. ( 9:1-5)

On the Lord's Day of the Lord gather together, break bread and give thanks, after confessing your transgressions SO THAT YOUR SACRIFICE MAY BE PURE. Let no one who has a quarrel with his neighbor join you until he is reconciled by the Lord: "In every place and time let there be OFFERED TO ME A CLEAN SACRIFICE. For I am Great King," says the Lord, "and My name is wonderful among the Gentiles." (14:1-2)

Sorry about that... There isn't a specific link to the Daily reflection- It's a email blast that is sent directly to one's email inbox everyday... so the only link I could paste would direct those to my inbox - and that could get precarious with this crowd!... lol
.
I copy the entire reflection in my post- its not an excerpt of a larger article- so its all there in its entirety. On the website though, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see a text input box that's says "Stay Updated" - if you put your email address in there, I believe they will send you links to resources like the Daily Reflection, etc.

I do not want to appear as promoting anyone's website - but it is a educational place to visit...

That's B.S. You're pimping Barrons's website with links that don't connect to the article.

An honest person would post an email, such as this, as a vanity post, rather than misdirecting a reader to an irrevelant website.

Thank You for sharing your concern.

You are suggesting Plagiarism then- which is illegal. I add nothing to the Bishop's incedibily incisive words of reflection to the Lord's Gospel... therefore it does not qualify as a vanity posting.
Nowhere in FR have I ever wrote " Go visit WORD ON FIRE website"....which I obviously could do- yet I do not. Yesterdays reply regarding the website was the FIRST I had ever received in that regard- so if i'm "pimping" (really?) WoF...I'm doing a lousy job of it.
the Reflections are NOT meant for discussion replies....and so are usually not replied to....a reflection is something to think upon and how it may hold value to the reader and their life choices.
Nor is anyone forced to read it. While I understand it can be like kryptonite to satan and any followers..... that would be their issue...not mine.

That is so true. We cannot compartmentalise God.
