Russian Olympians Prayed at Christ the Savior Cathedral Before Going to Tokyo

On June 30, 2021 the Russian national Olympic team prayed in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior before going to the XXXII Olympic Games, which will be held in the Japanese capital of Tokyo from July 23 to August 8.

A solemn prayer service in the church with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill was led by Metropolitan Mitrophan of Murmansk and Monchegorsk, chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Physical Culture and Sports, the website Patriarchy.ru reported.

Archpriest Andrei Alexeev, the spiritual leader of the Olympic team, rector of the Church of Prince Dmitry Donskoy in North Butovo served Metropolitan Mitrofan among other clergy.

Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin and Russian Olympic Committee Chairman Stanislav Pozdnyakov took part in the prayer service.

That is complete nonsense. Russians (except some old people) are not religious. Only one in ten Russians go to church(once a month or more). In the US about 43% go to church at least once a month.
