Are penguins in captivity are a microcosm of post-sexual revolution America? Or must people begin deriving their views on family from wildlife?
(LifeSiteNews) — Fr. Thomas J. Reese, an American Catholic Jesuit priest, senior analyst at Religion News Service (RNS), and former columnist at the National Catholic Reporter, tweeted out a link on January 30: “Catholic bishops, take note,” he wrote. “Male penguin pair, New York zoo’s first same-sex foster parents, doing ‘great job’ raising baby chick.”
The link was to an article from the Washington Post about two male penguins raising a penguin chick. Presumably, Reese was making the point that Catholic bishops who oppose children being raised by two men or two women rather than a mother and a father are mistaken in their view of the biblically-ordained natural family because … because people are the same as penguins? Or penguins in captivity are a microcosm of post-sexual revolution America? Or that people must begin deriving their views on family from wildlife?
To be fair to Reese, who appears not to know what he’s talking about, he drew the precise conclusion the Rosamond Gifford Zoo was hoping. From the Post:
Elmer and Lima, two male penguins from the zoo’s colony of 28 birds, were given the egg to incubate and look after by officials who were concerned that breeding pairs at the zoo had “a history of inadvertently breaking their fertilized eggs,” according to a statement released Friday.
The zoo said staff gave the egg to the male penguins in a bid to boost the chances of the egg eventually hatching. The two were “exemplary in every aspect of egg care,” the zoo said, adding that the males took turns protecting the egg before it hatched …

I cannot believe that male penguins are stupid enough to put their reproductive organ up the evacutory opening of another male penguin . Only humans do that
Who’d a thunk that penguins would make good interior decorators, love disco, and carry a chip on their shoulder about a lifestyle that causes them to lose their pooper grip?
Why does my mind imagine some alphabet pervert zoo worker rubbing male penguins together until they learn homosexuality?
Are gay people the same as Jesuit Priests? I think so!
Jesuit Priest seems like a bit of a queer duck to me.
Penguins don’t know that they’re gay; instinct sees a need and fulfills it.
Only one is made in the image of God Himself. The other is not. I’ll bet you can guess which one.
So he’s saying that homosexuals are like animals?
I don’t know bout penguins but I have raised hundreds of chickens and never seen a gay rooster or hen yet.
Others have raised tens of thousands and say the same thing.
One of the men I work with was wondering if being queer was actually normal.
I said it wasn’t, then I asked him...”How many beef cattle have you raised? How many hogs?”
He said hundreds.
I said: “And how many have been gay?”
He jumped up and declared! “By god NONE of them have been queer!”
I said: You just proved my point.
I didn’t know, but I wondered if this might be a factor.
What about Lesbian Seagulls?
There is no purpose in nature for homosexuality. Rather it is a perversion of nature that only occurs under extreme or adverse conditions, such as captivity by humans or in mentally unbalanced humans themselves.
Duh!
Just because males protect their children (or egg) doesn’t mean they are homosexual.
Homosexuality is when men put their pee-pee in the poo-poo place.
The public will never be told this, but what if this is learned behavior? Animals can be taught to act in certain ways if duly rewarded with sardines and little biscuits.
Why would someone try training a pair of penguins to ‘act gay’? To start a discussion going, of course!
They don’t. Penguins (of any sex) will look after eggs. It’s totally independent of mating behavior. I watch a lot of wildlife shows. They’ve shown this behavior in several species of penguins.
This story is a propaganda piece (as are other stories of homosexual animals).

June 11, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – The outgoing U.S. bishops’ pro-life chief Cardinal Timothy Dolan has said that the pro-life movement absolutely must make abortion illegal, rebuking Jesuit Father Thomas Reese’s recent suggestion that pro-lifers give up on that and promote contraception instead.
“Besides supporting programs to help mothers and children, the pro-life movement also has to support birth control as a means of avoiding unwanted pregnancies. Planned pregnancies do not get aborted; many unplanned pregnancies do,” the Jesuit wrote after Ireland voted to legalize abortion.
Contraception is the “lesser of two evils,” Reese argued.
“The contraceptive mandate of the Obama administration will do more to reduce the number of abortions than all of the legislative gimmicks of Republican legislators,” the elderly Jesuit wrote. “If European Catholic institutions can pay money into national health programs that perform abortions, then American Catholic employers can pay for insurance programs that pay for birth control.”
“If abortion is never going to be illegal, pro-lifers must consider voting for candidates, even pro-choice Democrats,” Reese wrote, claiming that Democrats “will reduce the number of abortions by supporting programs that help mothers and their children.”
Dolan, the archbishop of New York, responded:
One of Reese’s most troubling assertions is that contraception should be used to reduce abortions. In addition to rejecting the church’s teaching that contraception is itself morally flawed, and the fact that it can be medically harmful to women, his reasoning is questionable.
