Priests who resist blessing gay couples incur a curse, to heed Münster Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Dieter Geerlings, in a statement issued at a religious service in the queer community in Münster.
“Human rights are at stake when it comes to homophobia. A radical change is necessary so that the curse can finally become a blessing," Geerlings said, quoting theologian Hildegund Keul. Many queer people, he says, feel hurt by the way the Church treats them.
"The church must have the courage to welcome back those it has offended and still offends," Geerlings said. Only then can it become a sign of a human vision of the world that does not revolve only around itself.
Regarding the debate that followed the "#OutInChurch" campaign, Geerlings criticized church hiring regulations that discourage hiring openly gay employees, pontificating that the law should regulate working conditions, not people's lives. When more than 120 LGBTI employees came out of the closet in the church, Geerlings confesses that he was "very moved by how these people, also from our diocese, 'exposed themselves to the fire of discrimination in the church'". The bravery of these people also encouraged him to work for comprehensive legal change. All rules that discriminate against homosexual orientations and lifestyles must be removed from church labor law.

I’m reminded of a story about a group of Anglican Pilgrims to Rome who demanded a blessing from, I believe, Leo XIII, wo conceded, and began reciting (in Latin of course) the prayer of blessing given over the thurible when charging it with incense at Mass.
There was nothing ambiguous about God’s “blessing” of Sodom and Gomorrah; what hubris to second-guess our Creator.
Many clergy have no faith at all.
