Ukraine's 'Jewish' President declares Holy War against Russia: "Christ Has Risen!" [Watch]

Zelensky invokes religious war, declaring, “Christ has risen!”

Hashem is in its midst; it will not be toppled; by daybreak, Hashem will come to its aid. Psalms 46:6

Ukraine’s embattled president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, sent out a video Easter message from the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv to his people.

Despite being born a Jew, Zelensky ended his religion-laden speech with the emphatic declaration, “Christ is risen.”

(snip)

It is odd for Zelensky, who was born Jewish and whose great-grandparents died in World War II, to invoke a deity from inside a church.

It’s not easy to be president of Ukraine today. Probably not too easy to be Jewish there either.

I don’t see his comments as odd at all. In a mainly Catholic/ Orthodox country, you celebrate what they do. While Jewish guy, he is the chief executive of all the country. I expect that he like most offer his people groups encouragement as it pertains to them. Would anyone think he’d vilify Easter because he’s a Jew?

In the midst of a war, it is entirely appropriate for the head of state to ask God to save them from the invader, and to do it publicly.

I suppose, to paraphrase Henry IV of France, “Kiev is worth a Mass.”

How odd in this day and age for a Jew to pretend to be a Christian for the sake of social advancement!

"Ornata, Sophia" and whatnot.

It's the sort of thing we haven't seen in decades.

Nowadays, of course, and on Free Republic at least, the fashion is for Christians to pretend to be Jews.

"Yeshuah ha'Melech" and whatnot.

It is my personal belief as a Jew that the LORD is a good deal bigger than our organized religions, and is likely just as pleased to receive the thankful prayer of a Pope or a Rabbi in finery as He is to receive the prayer of a grateful, illiterate savage pondering the beauty of a seashell.

But what do I know?

Politics is show business for ugly people. Zelensky couldn't continue as an actor so he went into politics, caring nothing for how many deaths his actions lead to.

"The spotlight is to be mine. Damn you all."

I don't know President Zelensky's religious convictions. However, when Vladimir Putin, a former KGB official who owes his career to faithfully serving the atheistic Soviet state, invokes Orthodox Christian symbolism, I find his pretensions more offensive than Zelensky, raised in Judaism, invoking the same symbolism to encourage his fellow Ukrainians to fight..

Western Christian religion has the "just war" doctrine, from Augustine and developed in Catholic theology by Thomas Aquinas and among Protestants by Hugo Grotius. I don't know if Eastern Orthodoxy has a similar doctrine.

Aquinas set forth three principles of a just war:

First, the war must be waged upon the command of a rightful sovereign.
Second, the war needs to be waged for just cause, on account of some wrong the attacked have committed.
Thirdly, warriors must have the right intent, namely to promote good and to avoid evil.

Putin's invasion of Ukraine does not meet at least the second of these criteria. Re-establishing the USSR or the Tsarist Empire does not fall under any of these categories.

Whatever his motives, he’s on the right track asking for help from that agency, and he might get more help there than from NATO at the rate they are dragging their feet. I guess Putin has everyone convinced he is nuts enough to use what he’s got, even though obviously half an hour later he and most of his fellow citizens would be toast.

I don’t blame Zelensky all that much, our NATO leaders are playing this the wrong way. They should have said from day one, you’re on your own, so settle while you can. Encouraging him to think more help might be coming is both cruel and dangerous at the same time.

Putin is absolutely known to be friendly with Jews and Israel, dispute the history of Czarist Russia and the Soviet Union. Zelensky is an apostate Jew whose wife and children are proud Christians.

Why would you think Zelensky was “raised in Judaism”?
