Religion and Morality Make Russia a Challenge for the West, Suggests Patriarch Kirill
Global Orthodox ^ | 7/1/22

Posted on 07/05/2022 5:59:12 PM PDT by marshmallow

In his recent meeting with top officials and clergymen of the Russian South, Patriarch Kirill praised the achievements of that region.

- You are far ahead of many other regions. - His Holiness said. - I want to say again: not only because of the warm climate and wonderful living conditions here, but also because a very strong Orthodox tradition has been preserved here.

God grant that our spiritual strength will not wane, that there will be no fear, no sense of uncertainty in our historical development... This requires from our people a very strong unity, a consolidation of all forces. We must ensure that the contradictions which exist in any society between, as they used to say, classes - and now we don't use that word - between the different strata of society, so that these contradictions recede into the background and the solidarity of the whole people in the face of real threats come to the fore.

Russia, with her faith, with her philosophy of life, if you like, with her absolute sense of decency, is a challenge for a very large part of the Western world - they live by different laws. Everyone who comes here clearly feels it: time goes by, but people remain strong in their faith, in their love for the Motherland. And I would like to thank all the people of the South for their Christian faith, for their patriotism, for their loyalty to the Fatherland - said the Primate of the Russian Church.

Weekly church attendance in Russia is 7%, Norway 7%, the USA 36%, Mexico and Brazil 45%, Ethiopia and Uganda 82%, Nigeria 89%.

Russia is even behind France at 12%.

“It used to be zero percent so what is your point?”

No, it wasn’t. Even under the darkest days of communism there were always some people who went to Divine Liturgy somewhere in Russia.

And his point is obvious: Russia has never been known in modern times as a place of “religion and morality”. For much of it’s modern history it’s been known as backwards. cruel, and despotic. Russian Christianity has always been a paradox. They have the most beautiful liturgical chant on earth, but were so backwards that they didn’t even know the most basic Orthodox practices in the 17th century. Mind you, even on that score there is another view: https://www.amazon.com/Russia-Ritual-Reform-Liturgical-Reforms/dp/088141090X

Just giving statistics.

Some of them surprised me when I looked it up. The USA has really lost a lot in relation to religious belief. We’re behind Mexico and Brazil.

Russia is a bit different because the government is promoting religion rather than hindering it as is the case in many western countries. They still have a ways to go if those numbers are correct.

A lecture on morals by a KGB agent whose priests bless nuclear missiles and cheer the rape and torture of innocents by chechen swine in russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine. Inspiring...

You claim to be religious and you invade a foreign country. Yeah, sure, we invade foreign countries, but, except maybe for GW Bush, we don’t claim to be religious about it so at least we aren’t hypocrites. Right?

Yeah, he's bought and paid for.

Russia has the highest abortion rate in the world.

More than double China's.

Ukraine fired its "human rights" commissioner after it was revealed she fabricated child rape / murder charges against Russia.

Russia invades a country on its border, 300 miles from Moscow. This country was about to become a member of the virulently anti Russian, largest offensive juggernaut the world has ever seen. The titular head of this military behemoth has forcefully stated that the goal of NATO is regime change in Moscow. That’s why Russia invaded. You acknowledge we invade countries. Why did we spend 20 brutal years resulting in 15,000 dead American boys and a million, mostly innocent, dead Arabs? This quagmire was 5,000 miles from the US and they never attacked or realistically threatened us (not speaking of the Saudis, who did attack us). OK, we’re not hypocrites. What the hell are we after that pointless and despicable 20 year bloodletting? The only thing I signed on for was finding Saddam’s yellow cake.

Patriarch Kirill needs to publicly demand that Putin and all of his followers support a ban on abortion.

Russian Christianity has always been a paradox. They have the most beautiful liturgical chant on earth . . . .

You've obviously never been to an Armenian church.

Decency, like giving Ukrainian cities the same treatment as Berlin in 1945?

OMG!!!

That's awful!

Why would any neighbor of Russia want to do that?

The Russians know exactly why. The Russians had their murderous boot heel on most their throats for seventy years. This was as recently as thirty years ago. Those countries know Russia is guilty as hell as you, I and Putin know. Why do think the Russians are so terrified? Don’t do you think its rather dangerous to have the traitors and dipshits in the White House playing nuclear brinkmanship with Putin under these circumstances? After all, the titular head of NATO has forcefully stated the goal is regime change in Moscow.

Ukraine in NATO is playing nuclear brinkmanship with Putin? Why?
Don't NATO nukes work when fired from any other location?

After all, the titular head of NATO has forcefully stated the goal is regime change in Moscow.

Right. But the drooling moron only said that after Putin invaded Ukraine.

You obviously have no clue what brinkmanship is. Putin was reacting to twenty years of NATO aggressive hegemony across Central Europe, ten years of Obama/Soros/Biden corrupt control of Kiev, and constant threats and destabilizing lies about Russia, particularly from the US for the last six years. It is not Putin’s fault that the head of NATO is a drooling moron. It is not Putin’s fault that 90% of DC and many ex MAGA neocons wholeheartedly support the drooling moron’s catastrophically destabilizing machinations in Ukraine. How many more tens of billions do you and the drooling moron think is appropriate to pi$$ away this summer?
