The question is does Pope Benedict forgive you?
Author on future Pope Benedict, “ I sensed I was in the presence of a holy man.”
Who is he to judge?
“Not my job to forgive.”
Au contraire, mon ami...
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15 ESV

You MAY NOT be unforgiving.
You SHOULD set healthy boundaries on relationships and let whatever REPENTANCE the other party may exhibit inform the placement of those boundaries.
Just this portion showed the direction of this piece:
“But I also knew I was in the presence of a man who, as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, had done irreparable harm to theological discussion in the church. There were scores of theologians who had been investigated and silenced by his congregation during the papacy of John Paul II. Articles and books had been censored. Professors had been removed from their jobs. Even more had practiced self-censorship to avoid harassment.
“Those targeted included liberation theologians in Latin America, moral theologians in the United States and Europe, and anyone writing about the priesthood.
“Some of them were my close friends. I lived with two Jesuit”
Getting worked up about “investigations” and banishments, when that is what a church largely SHOULD be doing (questions are OK, but being apostate - no), policing itself to ensure consistency.
Liberation theology.
Jesuits.
OK, even as a non-Catholic, I know where he’s going.
I thought that’s what it would be about.
But no.
You can’t forgive someone on another person’s behalf.
Is he dead?
I forgive him, but I do not forget him and the thing he has either done or is complicit in.
He oversaw the defense of pedophiles.
I pray God will forgive him. Because I won’t.
Exactly
Wow, this Reese guy is on a roll.
At first I thought the article was going to be about forgiving Pope Benedict for giving us Francis the communist.
I forgive Pope Benedict ... for not having this a*****e burned at the stake.
No need to read beyond the initials after the name: S. J.
Historically political whores. Just ask Daniel Ortega.
The arrogance. Stunning.
The jesuit heresy has taken over the Church.
“The author didn’t write this with forgiveness in his heart.”
I agree. Reese’s “forgiveness” is along the lines of: “Sure, Ratzinger won his petty little battle against me, but I won the war when Bergoglio came along and scored a victory for the Catholic left beyond my wildest dreams, so I’m going to be magnanimous and forgive the poor old coot for being on the wrong side of history.”
