So this guy got in front of the pope and thought he knew better?

Did I read this correctly? The author wants to forgive him for being a Christian?

Further reason to love Benedict. He should be cannonised and a cannon used on his detractors.

Thomas Reese is the prototype for James Martin, they should have thrown them both out. The outrageous arrogance of the man, he’s exactly the sort of “filth” Benedict was disgusted with. One of the many wolves attacking the sheep.

Not my job to forgive. I brushed him and his chaotic views aside and continue to embrace my faith in God and in Him alone.

The Jesuits are a plague on the Church. They should have remained suppressed as Clement XIV had done.

So, he was cracking down on heterodox theology being spread from within the church. Isn’t that exactly what the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is supposed to do?

Reese and America magazine is best understood if the reader realizes that the Jesuit order and the people who run it, are overwhelmingly populated by homosexuals seeking to justify their perverted behavior. The Bible, Catholic theology, tradition and teaching have no accommodation for sinful, perverted behavior. Any “clergy” that purports to use Catholic thought and teaching to explain or justify such behavior are dangerous, heretics and frauds. The prescient St. Paul warned the faithful that such heathen would always be among us and must be chronically purged.

The author didn’t write this with forgiveness in his heart. If he had, he would have kept his forgiveness quiet and private. This is a last cry of accusation and resentment against the Pope emeritus for the author to get closure from old wounds. This is to garner sympathy and to shout out to the world that he has been wronged.

This is not a catholic caucus thread, but probably should be, so I’ll leave with this one post...😁

Forgive him?

He’s STILL my Pope.

Just this portion showed the direction of this piece:

“But I also knew I was in the presence of a man who, as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, had done irreparable harm to theological discussion in the church. There were scores of theologians who had been investigated and silenced by his congregation during the papacy of John Paul II. Articles and books had been censored. Professors had been removed from their jobs. Even more had practiced self-censorship to avoid harassment.

“Those targeted included liberation theologians in Latin America, moral theologians in the United States and Europe, and anyone writing about the priesthood.

“Some of them were my close friends. I lived with two Jesuit”

Getting worked up about “investigations” and banishments, when that is what a church largely SHOULD be doing (questions are OK, but being apostate - no), policing itself to ensure consistency.

Liberation theology.

Jesuits.

OK, even as a non-Catholic, I know where he’s going.
