Why is Whoopi Goldberg praising Pope John XXIII and bashing the Latin Mass?

The radical feminist's comments after visiting Pope Francis were strange considering her history of abortion and her contempt for the Catholic Church.

Oddly enough, Goldberg thanked the late John XXIII, who died in 1963, for his efforts to change the church as well.

“For me as a little kid, [John XXIII] allowed the sisters to come out of the very heavy, big habits that they were wearing so that they looked like people — so you could talk to them,” she told Vatican News.

“And he loved music that different people in different parts of the world were making … but were not sung in Latin. And for kids like me, he allowed us to do the Mass in English, which was great!”

Goldberg has had multiple abortions

It’s hard to discern what Goldberg, who attended Catholic school growing up, ever received from “talking” to habit-less nuns. Apparently, not much.

In The Choices We Made, Goldberg revealed that she became pregnant at just 14 in the late 1960s, right around the time when her preferred English Mass was being rolled out. What did she do when she found out she was with child? She performed a “back alley” abortion.

Goldberg also said she got pregnant the next year. Instead of going to a nun to seek the church’s wisdom on the matter, she went to Planned Parenthood to obtain her second abortion.

In total, Goldberg had more than five abortions before age 25. “God gives you freedom of choice,” she once said.

And this is the person Vatican News is holding up as a spokesperson for the Novus Ordo Mass?

John XXIII praised the Latin language

Complicating things for Goldberg, as well as for the Vatican, is the oft-forgotten fact that in his 1962 Apostolic Constitution Veterum Sapientia, Pope John not only defended the Church’s use of Latin historically but also called for its continued use in the future.

“Of its very nature Latin is most suitable for promoting every form of culture among peoples. It gives rise to no jealousies,” he taught.

“The Catholic Church has a dignity far surpassing that of every merely human society … It is altogether fitting, therefore, that the language it uses should be noble, majestic, and non-vernacular.”

“The Apostolic See,” he continued, “has always been at pains to preserve Latin, deeming it worthy of being used in the exercise of her teaching authority.”

I’m guessing Goldberg, or Pope Francis, has never read that.

A public enemy of the Church’s moral teachings

Goldberg has been divorced three times. In her many public appearances over the past four decades, she has viciously attacked the Church’s teachings on abortion, same-sex “marriage,” and a number of other topics.

On The View this week, she spoke about her meeting with Francis. Predictably, she remarked that it didn’t change her mind.

“I don’t know that it’s going to jump me back into church,” she said. “But what it did was … I feel better because I feel like somebody up there likes me. That’s the best way I can put it.”

In other words, her time at the Vatican made her “feel” warm and fuzzy on the inside but did little to cause her to reconsider the faith she was taught in her youth.

This sort of reaction shouldn’t be surprising. Francis has said repeatedly he approaches all of his meetings with non-Catholics in this way. Seeking their conversion is not something that enters his mind.

Traditional nuns are making a comeback

Goldberg told Vatican News that she is sad that “recruitment” with women religious is difficult these days, and that she hopes Sister Act 3 will be of some assistance to that.

She needn’t look far to see where and why this has happened. In communities where Hillary Clinton-style pants suits and social justice activism is the norm, there is barely any interest from young women. In traditional communities where prayer, sacrifice, and, yes, habits, are the standard, far more attention is being given.

In 2019, The Catholic Herald published an article titled “The new Sisterhood: traditional orders are booming.” The essay highlighted several women religious communities in the UK that are seeing a massive uptick in new entrants.

The growth of the Dominican Sisters in Nashville, the Consoling Sisters in Italy, and the Dominican Sisters of Fanjeaux is also a sure sign that God is slowly restoring what Goldberg and the church of the 1960s so very much sought to eradicate. And that is an encouraging thought.

Whoopi may have talked to the nuns, but I don’t think she listened.

I understand that learning Latin scares off potential priests,
but many Catholics are comforted by a Latin mass and Latin mass should be offered insomuch as possible and sought after.

In my youth, my neighbors who were sent to Catholic school had to learn Latin.

Latin is a fairly complex language, considerably more difficult than the Romance languages.

When the antisemite lunatic left likes your pope... You know you have the wrong pope. BTW... Where is the condemnation of terrorism from Pope Francis... Cat got your tongue?

Ah... Here it is... Just googled him...

Pope Francis Announces Prayer Vigil, Day of Fasting for Peace in Israel-Hamas War

Isn't that nice... He wants peace between the Israeli's and HAMAS... The group that wants to wipe all Jews and the Jewish religion off the face of the earth... How kind of him.

Yes. The whole point of a Latin mass id that a Catholic can go and participate in a mass in any county in the world even though they don't speak the local language.

Frank picked her because she’s an absolute pig who mocks our faith. She gets paid to do so professionally.

Frank mocks his own faith and people. Maybe he’ll just burn in hell where he belongs.
