Probably the most often-used and controversial passage of Scripture by pro-ETH (extra-terrestrial hypothesis) UFOlogists is the account of “the sons of God” and their resultant offspring, the Nephilim. The description in Genesis 6:1–7 reads:
When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, “My spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

Demons definitely come much later in scripture and cannot be used interchangeably with the “sons of god”.

I believe the Sons of God were people who kept the precepts of God. Sons of me were the irreligious.
The Sons of men found the daughters of the religious to be pretty enough for marriage and they all married each other.
Just like they do today.

Angels, spirits, don’t have tangible bodies or human DNA or human chromosomes. And we don’t see any other time in history where angels got cahootin’ with earth women.

Genesis 6:4 talks about “giants” in the land before the flood. The English word giants is translated from two original Hebrew words: Rephaim and Nephilim. The Rephaim are mentioned only after the Flood; they were tall men, like Anakim (Deuteronomy 2:11, 20).
the word giant in Genesis 6:4 comes from the word Nephilim, which means “a feller,” or one who fells a tree because of his unusual strength. The term implies a “tough,” or a bully, an individual of great physical might. In other words, the pre-Flood Nephilim were giants in strength but not in tallness of stature.
The description of the Nephilim of pre-Flood times matches perfectly with the large-boned, exceptionally muscled Neanderthals.
The Bible even indicates how these Nephilim or Neanderthals were killed off.
Prior to the Flood, the Earth became filled with evil and violence. It was a time of intermarrying between the different races God had created. It was also a time of rapid technological advancement.
The Bible talks about a great leader named Tubalcain. He was the first to work with metal and develop instruments of war (Genesis 4:22). And in those days violence filled the Earth (Genesis 6:11, 13). The Neanderthals were no match for the swords, spears and arrows of Tubalcain’s armies.
According to Shultz, the “violence” that filled the Earth refers to a great war that took place before the Flood—a war that God allowed because of the degeneration and gross wickedness of the Neanderthals and other humans. This too fits with the archaeological evidence that indicates that many of the Neanderthal sites that have been uncovered show indications that cannibalism was common. Bones found at Neanderthal cave dwellings often show the telltale signs of cut marks and splitting indicating that the Neanderthal were eating the marrow of the bones. Another Neanderthal site in Germany offers more proof of the violence. Thirty-three skulls were unearthed all huddled together in a circle. Their owners’ heads had been cut off with a stone ax and buried together.
Eventually the violence and degradation became so intense that God decided to destroy all humans except Noah, his three sons and their wives in a worldwide Flood.
Is it fragments of this pre-Flood genetic code that have been transferred down through the ages and generations that scientists are now detecting in people today? Adam and Eve are common ancestors to all humans.
Once again, science proves the Bible correct.

Preachers don't like that use in Genesis 6 because they want a more prosaic interpretation of an otherwise very frightening saga in human history.

You have to admit the fallen angel thing, is very distasteful, and it IS very distasteful. So distasteful, that Julius Africanus, decided to change it. I believe the language is pretty clear, as you already pointed out. It’s not a salvation issue, so I don’t worry about it much, but I believe the sons of God, were fallen angels.
The idea of fallen angels (which is quite Biblical) in Genesis 6 is just hard to present to "modern man."
But the point is, it doesn't matter whether "modern man" can accept it or not, the Bible quite clearly states that Genesis 6 is about fallen angels.
Heiser, who also taught in seminaries, said that political correctness in its broadest definition isn't a new phenomenon. This is the reason seminaries avoid the discussion of angels in general. Same for rabbis. The spiritual realm just isn't "politically correct" because it sounds primitive.
Ignoring the spiritual realm in general is like glossing over the parting of the Red Sea or Jonah and the whale...or other miraculous events. Modernists just don't want to hear about miracles. They only want "science" and the subject of angels doesn't sound scientific.
I’m not bothered if it turns out to be fallen angels. I just keep Scripture as close to the point to be about the Salvation of man as I can.

And people who come to Jesus using those tasteful re-translations might find that their Salvation isn't exactly Biblical.
