Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba Father!
How Excellent,
How Magnificent,
How Wonderful is Your Holy Name!
You Are Magnificent beyond my humble words,
Yet I want to tell everyone of Your Glory!

Almighty God,
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
You Alone Are The Omnipotent,
Omniscient, and
Omnipresent Supreme Being!
You Alone Are The Great I AM,
The One True God Of Abraham!
El Shaddai,
All-Sufficient For All Our Needs,
Our All-in-All.

How Long, Oh LORD,
will the evil shepherds be allowed to flourish in our own land?
We have seen, throughout history,
that those nations who curse Your People end up
Dear Father, I fear for my OWN Beloved Country,
because of the evil shepherds that have taken over!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

The Names and Titles of God (Redeemer)

Isaiah 54:

5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

The King James Version

On this Palm Sunday, I would like to share an absolutely true story which relates to Today's Name for God that we find in Isaiah. It happened forty years ago, but is still fresh in my mind.

On our first day in Jerusalem, my husband was very sick. (To this day, I think it was something he ate in Jericho the day before). He felt so bad about it that he just said,

"Feel free to go to the Old City yourself. There's a big Bus Station next door to the hotel. Just take the bus to the Jaffa Gate. Have Fun!"

Well, I'm the type of gal that has no problem doing wild and crazy things, so I gave him a kiss, grabbed my purse and ran over to the Central Bus Station. I looked out the windows of the bus and saw a modern city, not that different from Boston, where I had grown up. Office Buildings, Apartment Blocks, and Parks streamed past my window, and then bus dropped me off at a huge gate in a fortress wall. As soon as I passed through the gate, I entered a different world. Shops laden with exotic goods lined the square and Middle Eastern Music was playing. My feet picked up the rhythm and I started to dance...just a little bit.

Suddenly I was surrounded by 5 Arab men who started bombarding me with questions.

"Who ARE You?
What are you doing here?
WHY are you dancing?"
ARE YOU MARRIED?"

I broke away and ran, ducking into the shop-lined streets and making my way through the maze of alleys. It wasn't long before I was lost.

I HATE BEING LOST. It's one of my personal taboos.

Suddenly, something caught my eye down an intersecting alley. It was a little donkey, tied up in front of a shop, munching happily on some feed. I headed towards the donkey. Right across from the Donkey was an open door to a church. It was serene and cool inside, and gave me a feeling of safety and peace.

After resting a bit, and saying a prayer, I got my bearings and was able to walk back to the Jaffa Gate which was nearby. I found out later that the beautiful Church that had given me Refuge and Direction was The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.

Was it a coincidence that my personal reading today turned out to be Matthew 21:

21 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

5 “Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”[a]

6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna[b] to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”[c]
“Hosanna[d] in the highest heaven!”

10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Was it a coincidence that the Name we are looking at today is "Redeemer"?

Was it a coincidence that the little donkey munching away on her feed was right across the street from the Church of the Redeemer?

I think not!
