I’ve also heard that it was connected with NY and NYC being the birthplace of abortion.
But you can’t say it’s not connected any more than someone can say it is, because in both cases you are making the claim you know the mind of God and what the purpose of it was. And you are in no more a position to make that claim than the people you are condemning.
The best anyone can say is that we don’t know although there certainly is precedent for it in Scripture.
