Top Five Issues Where Gary Johnson is More Libertarian than Rand Paul
The Libertarian Republic ^ | 8/9/16 | Josh Guckert

On immigration, Rand Paul is much less libertarian and moreso paleoconservative. He supports deploying more patrol agents on the southern border and building a border fence. He also has challenged the notion of birth-right citizenship and wishes to eliminate so-called “sanctuary cities.” He supported SB1070 in Arizona, which allowed for easier deportations of undocumented immigrants. During the Syrian refugee crisis, Paul staunchly opposed their immigration. He also at one point supported “pausing” immigration from countries in the Middle East. To his credit, he does support an expansion of work visas. Also, his rhetoric is much less draconian than Donald Trump or Ted Cruz, but much room for improvement still remains.

Gary Johnson has said that a bigger border fence will only produce taller ladders. He has therefore continually mocked Donald Trump’s idea to build a wall. Johnson opposed the SB1070 bill in Arizona, saying it would lead to racial profiling and discrimination. He supported the immigration of Syrian refugees, as he claimed that because the U.S. bears some responsibility for the situation in the country, it ought to therefore take in a share of the refugees. In 2001, Johnson went as far as to support open borders with Mexico. Johnson’s campaign website states that his goal is to create an “efficient system of providing work visas, conducting background checks, and incentivizing non-citizens to pay their taxes, obtain proof of employment, and otherwise assimilate with our diverse society.”

A lot of people who call themselves libertarians are really anarchists.

Libertarianism sounds good in theory..not so good in practice.

Hooking and using drugs, or whatever self indulgence one wishes to partake, doesn’t merely impact the person doing it.. it impacts other family members and friends ...
so, that whole idea of ‘as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else” argument is, at the very least, 3/4 crock...because many forms of self indulgence can be very destructive and at the least very risky.

As a resident of Pennsylvania, a state that may well decide the election, I have no choice but to vote for Trump.

The other candidates leave me no real choice.

Johnson and Weld are pro-abortion. Therefore, unfit to hold any public office. Dogcatcher, maybe.

Religious freedom is really about human liberty. Would those who force a bakery to make gay marriage cakes uphold the same bakery’s right to refuse a swastika cake, or a penis cake, or a Confederate flag cake?

It should not be required by law, nor prohibited by law, for any individual or business to make any cake or slogan or image they believe to be immoral or harmful.

Libertarians would let a billion Chinese come to the United States.

And Mexicans, and Muslims, anybody but white Europeans.

Any actual evidence for that? Libertarians like Europeans who are coming here to get away from excessive regulation. Some of them actually are libertarians.
