I guess the greatest of America is not that she is without sin, but that she is capable of recognizing her sin and addressing it. Excellent. It's one of the reasons we're the greatest Country on Earth.

It means my job is safe. ;^)
I was thinking "greatest thing about America" or "the greatness of America" and I screwed it up. Hobbits shouldn't pontificate.
I guess the greatness of America is not that she is without sin, but that she is capable of recognizing her sin and addressing it.

I eschew "clash of cultures", preferring responsibility of individuals.
Connor was a schmuck who slew all, combatant and noncombatant, while Bear Hunter ordered his warriors not to shoot first.
Bear Hunter expected Connor to ask for the fugitives, which request Bear Hunter intended to honor.
Connor had no honor, and should have swung.
He's currently running an eternal gauntlet of Shoshones armed with tomahawks, the icy river always out of reach.

We knew what you meant. I do that all the time start on one thought and then change it but forget to chance the stuff I typed. Sort of nice to know I'm not the only one who does that.

There were some downright evil people around, they still exist today. Major John M. Chivington comes to mind and to some extent Custer. IMHO one of the problems the Indians had in dealing with us was that they expected honor but were dealing with men who had none.
