Former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney - believed by many political observers to be a clear GOP front-runner in the 2012 presidential race - is virtually in a dead heat with contender Sarah Palin, according to a new CNN poll.
The poll shows Romney only 3 percentage points in front of former Alaska Gov. Palin, within the margin of error.
Its a pretty open contest, and thats interesting in and of itself, said Suffolk University political professor John C. Berg. It means the primary contest will be tighter.
Only months from the unofficial start of the 2012 presidential campaign, Romney has shown strong fund-raising and was tapped as the front-runner at the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this year.
But Berg said that the close poll figures could signal a tough fight between Republicans during the primary.
Theres still the desire in both parties to try to get it locked up early . . . so they can focus on attacking the other party - but thats a ways away, Berg said.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll of 1,009 adults nationwide was conducted between Aug. 6 and Aug. 10.
That sound you hear is me banging my head against the wall.
Wow. Nope. No bias. :/
Sarah Palin is out there campaigning for candidates and raising money for them and creating an army. And she enjoys doing that. Sure, there are races she shouldn't be around because of local issues. But she's there anyway. And she's liked for being glib and honest.
I don't see Palin running for at least 8 years or more if ever.
My problem is we don't have our go-to Presidential candidate for 2012. We need our Reagan.
This IMO is not a time for mediocrity.
I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind. I was wrong! Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she. And what a she! This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP. Welcome back, Dad, even if you're wearing a dress and bearing children this time around.

She is making too much money at this point to consider running IMO, and the other reason she won't IMO go in 2012 is she wants to probably spend more time in the public eye converting all the regular people to her side.
She is likely to be the next potential President after the one elected in 2012 IMO. By that time her own appearances over the years will make her less smear proof and the Press will have then little or no influence her election.
All my opinion, but I'd be shocked if she ran in 2012.
That said, we can’t stand for NOTHING people running for President under a Republican ticket.
We also need a mostly conservative agenda like Contract With America 2.
Newt could contribute, but he would also be nothing but ignored noise to the general public for 2012.
What is happening is people have seen and heard lots of these people before and IMO are sick to death of them. We all want results, not empty suit personalities.
PS: Little guys is doing well, I get to post because he is SLEEPING near by.
I thought having 50 years on the baby was supposed to give me a great edge. I’m waiting for that edge still. :-) So far this is “YOUTH WILL BE SERVED”.
Remember she said Obama has no cojones about border security? She has more to say that is clearly understood.
Wait until after November. She's under the radar now supporting a GOP congress all over the place packing the venues. Patience is a virtue. And very few people trust the TV media regime.
I agree that Democrats always point to who they mostly fear.
Again, she’s making tens of millions right now.
She is gaining popularity and being powerful in pushing foward good other candidates in state elections.
I don’t think she is going to make a go of 2012.
I think she will go for 2016.
Romney is dead in the water though. Polls would look good or even, then on election day he will lose by the same margin to Obama the way McCain did IMO.
If not Palin, who? I know, but I don’t think she’s going to run.
None at all! You’re right about that. Just two very nice photos. One smiling, one angry. LOL.
Another question to ask is “What has Romney done?”
Sarah Palin is out there campaigning for candidates and raising money for them and creating an army. And she enjoys doing that. Sure, there are races she shouldn’t be around because of local issues. But she’s there anyway. And she’s liked for being glib and honest.

I’m glad you asked about Romney because I just happen to know what he;s done lately! He bought himself a Scott Brown-type, pick-up truck to drive himself to campaign functions! That’ll work, right? LOL.
God bless Sarah. She’s forever hammering the Marxist and his party while working for the election of conservative candidates of her choice. She’s even trying to help the slacker RNC. Smart politician, that Sarah Palin.
A pretext for free publicity in Iowa, signaling his intent to run.
Gingrich, who ran away in 98, made nice with Hillary, and sat on the settee with Nahncee.
Romney and Gingrich--RomneyCare and global warming.
A smarmier, squishier approach.
Oh, GOOD info, Phil! Newtie and Mitt, huh?
Newt Samsonite Gingrich!
Do Iowan’s really approve of all of his marriages?
The new Mrs. Samsonite is quite a trip with that bleached hair of hers. Not really condusive for a woman her age or fitting for a first lady, but not to worry, he’ll never make it to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Newt has a brilliant mind at times, but he’s a much better back bencher.
It’s such an obvious ploy.
There won’t be a United States, as we know it, by 2016 if Mr. Obama, Secretary Clinton, Governors Romney or Huckabee are elected to the presidency in 2012, don’t you see that?
Agree if CNN like anything it’s not good.
Riply,
You’re a gentleman and scholar.
Actually, our posting styles are very different. Colofornian is very detailed. I’m big picture. We both use our gifts to point out the fallacies of the teaching of mormonism when it pretends to be Christianity.
If RINOmney becomes our RINOminee, my fishing may be travel, reading, fishing or something else. :-)
ampu
I guess you might consider this Riply’s believe it or not. ;-)
