Please help, if you can.
I just gave birth and I would like to work from home for the next couple of years. Could anyone suggest any genuine work at home opportunities that are not scams?
I have some computer skills but I would gladly do physical work, such as assembling things, if needed. I still believe that honest work can be rewarded with honest pay in this country.
All help will be much appreciated.
Dear moderator, I am new and my post may not be in the proper categories. Please re-file if needed.
Thank you all in advance. You are all great.

A lot of women are in the same boat. Would you consider watching their children in your home? I know some people who are making decent money doing that.

Good Freeper Name! RE: Work at home. I know people that do medical billing or medical transcribing for doctors. I really can't think of anything else that will keep you at home without having to get a babysitter for appointments. I'm sure others will give you good suggestions and welcome to Free Republic!

Can you get out at all?
Try Mystery Shopping!
I do that off and on and work it around my daughter's schedule.

Good luck!

This is the first thing I explored. There is such an opportunity in my neighborhood. They pay minimum wage. However, since I would have to bring my daughter along, they deduct her daycare fee from my pay. In the end, I would be making some $50 per week, after taxes.

I'm not an expert, but, a friend's wife watched my children while "we" worked. She was excellent and worked through references from the church. She also was befor ethis pre-litiginous age and so homeowners insurance and sitting for neighbor's kids worked well. If you advertise etc, you will need licenses and have a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense which would only ensure the type of care you are supposed to provide. Actual care, word of mouth etc is the best.
Wish you well "mom".

Whatever you do, just do everything that you can to be near your child as much as possible. If possible, also consider home schooling rather than expose your child to the indoctrination in the public school system. You'll be much happier in the end.
Good luck and God Bless.

Sales - not telemarketing, but sales or order taking for some local company.
Example would be such as a local printing company; copy the Rolodex and make phone calls.
Start out by going to some Chamber of Commerce mixers to get 'plugged in', if you're not already.

If you have sewing skills and if there are a lot of sports teams in the area, you might consider sewing monograms and patches on sports uniforms. Whenever we have had patches sewn on our kids' letterman jackets it cost a LOT. You would have to do some hustling and put your name out there, but it could be a start. Like anything, it would take time. It might lead to something like a business of ordering sports uniforms for teams too! And once you are out there talking to others, you will be making a LOT of potentially useful contacts for jobs and future referrals. Good luck!

I'm not talking about working for someone else. If you could get 3 or 4 women to bring their kids to your own house, you could make some decent money.

My thoughts were in the medical line too. Know a father who stays home with children transcribing for the local hospital. You might want to contact your local clinics etc. Also have a friend that works at home for local lawyers.
Good Luck! Welcome to FR. Come over and visit the Daily Dose!

Thank you Tia, I bookmarked that site. I will be looking at their forum today.

Thank you. Great idea. I may try this as one potential opportunity.
To: mo4bush
Do you know, does medical billing require any particualr certification?
To: Hannity s Sanity
No problem!
BTW! do NOT get sucked into paying a fee to shop for an agency!
THAT is a scam, and any company that says you must is having you on!

If you're really sales-oriented, try selling Tupperware, or Creative Memories or something like that. My neighbor's wife hasn't worked outside the home since their 2nd and 3rd was born, and she tried Tupperware before having more success with Creative Memories. She works her schedule so that her husband stays home with the kids a couple or few evenings a week.

Medical billing or transcription is a really good idea. You do need some training. I've seen those commercials on TV where you can "get your degree" at home, and they also offer training on medical billing/transcription, vet assistant, gunsmithing, etc. You don't need a degree, but you do need training. I don't think you need any special certification.
Your local community college might offer this training, and their adult education department should offer a lot of courses you can take 1 or 2 evenings a week.

Yes, I looked at their forum. It appears that most of the opportunities there are scams or scam-supporting activities.
