JUDGE BORK CAMPAIGNS FOR TOOMEY - SPECTER CAMPAIGN DOUBLETALK CONTINUES

JUDGE BORK CAMPAIGNS FOR TOOMEY
SPECTER CAMPAIGN DOUBLETALK CONTINUES

PA PROLIFE ONLINE NEWS
Monday, February 2, 2004; Vol. VIII, No. 3

By Mary Beliveau, Legislative/PAC Director  (beliveau@paprolife.org)

As Senator Specter continues his Republican primary doubletalk to make pro-life voters think that he supports life, Judge Robert Bork appeared at a January 8 Pittsburgh press conference to remind voters of Specter's record and that Specter could be dangerous as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, if he is re-elected.

Bork's presence on the campaign trail was a reminder to voters of Specter's key role in keeping Bork from winning his nomination battle to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1987, one year after he promised to support all the President's nominees to the Supreme Court in his 1986 election rhetoric.

Bork stated that "Arlen Specter has run twice before this, since my confirmation hearings, and I never came out and opposed him…The only reason I am doing so now is that he has an excellent challenger, Congressman Toomey."

Bork further stated that "We are getting a judiciary, particularly a Supreme Court, that is extremely permissive…Since Senator Specter favors that kind of judging," if he becomes the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Bork predicted that "we will get more of it."

"It's quite clear that he doesn't think that judges ought to stick to the original understanding of the Constitution, but up to other considerations - primarily political and social, " Bork said of Specter.

In Specter's book, "Passion for Truth," he makes clear his activist judicial philosophy and brags about his key role in Bork's defeat.

Beware of Specter's campaign rhetoric.  Remember:  He voted for an amendment to the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban that affirmed the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision - a decision that legalized abortion on demand throughout pregnancy, which includes partial-birth abortions.  Specter supports taxpayer funding of abortion and leads the national effort to clone human embryos to be killed for scientific experimentation (S.303).
It's important to keep the facts straight.  Don't be deceived by campaign rhetoric.

With bush defeated in the fall and Daschle back firmly in control of the Senate... A Democrat Senator from PA should be able to get some nice pork for PA.

President Kerry will be sure to send you and Judge Bork his thanks...

Specter won't help Bush win. All the pro-life Democrats will vote for Toomey as they do for Santorum. Bush could then carry PA.

I hope you're right. The Club for Growth has been working hard for Toomey. Cheers for Judge Bork as well on this one.

Specter is a lost cause. My wife and I are voting Toomey. And I think Specter's scared, at least about Centre County. My wife got polled the other day by his camp. Not to mention his constant ad barrage on local radio stations around here.

That's great! There's at least three of us. I've also been seeing quite a few Toomey bumper stickers out there.

Do you have any idea how liberal Specter will be if he is reelected? He'll be too old to run again. His wife is a prominent Democrat and I wouldn't be surprised if he switched parties anyway if he wins the election.

Are you forgetting that Specter was the jackass who stood on the floor of the United States Senate and invoked Scottish law by voting "not proven"?

I for one would rather have a democratic senator than Specter as a nominal republican heading up the judiciary committee. Count me in as another Pennsylvanian for Toomey.

But does Toomey have a chance to win? Is he making any hay regarding immigration?

If I had the choice in previous years, I would have voted for a blind dead dog instead of Spectre as long as the dog wasn't a demonrat.

That's all I have to say about that.

They sent me one when I donated some bucks. Then some jerk ripped it off my truck. So I made my own using my PC and printer.

Judge Bork bump!

If Specter takes over the Judiciary Committee, any decent Supreme Court nominees will be DOA.

U.S. Rep. Pat Toomey, R-PA, cast what proved to be an important swing vote to help provide prescription drug coverage to America’s senior citizens.

How could any conservative even think of voting for the man who turned his back on his principles when he had a chance to stop the BIGGEST ENTITLEMENT IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND?

I suspect it is the price he had to pay for some behind the scenes support from the Bush administration.

I think Toomey has an excellent chance to win the primary. George Bush is running unopposed and Pennsylvania has a large pro-life constituency who will go through hell and high water to vote against Specter.

Specter has shown that he is scared by all the ads he's running on talk radio. I think he is aiming his ads in the wrong place as most talk radio listeners are politically sophisticated and know what a kilt-wearing RINO Specter is.

I think if Toomey wins the primary he will have a very tough time in the general election.

I don't know if Toomey is making any hay regarding immigration. I think he'll be getting behind the scenes support from Bush and I don't think he wants to step on the administration's toes.

Specter is also doing phone polling. They stopped questioning me right after I told them I was definitely voting for Toomey.
