Condoleezza Rice on 60 Minutes Live Thread [7pm EST, Sunday 3/28]
CBS News ^ | 3-28-04 | CBS News

Posted on 03/28/2004 2:57:31 PM PST by GraniteStateConservative

I was waiting for this to go up. We're about t-minus one hour from it (depending on how long Duke-Xavier goes, I guess). Too bad it's not going to be a long interview like Clarke had. I've noticed that 60 Minutes are not promoting this either. The commercial I just saw advertised the story on soccer phenom Freddy Adu, not the story on Rice or Pickering. I also discovered from the link referenced above that Rice spoke to them this morning and not yesterday as I'd heard would be the case before. Bill Kristol predicted this morning that Rice might say that if this is really such a big deal that she'll testify in public under oath as she's been badgered to do. I don't think Bill has a good track record on predicting news, so take that with a grain of salt. By the way, go Xavier-- I had Duke losing before now in my office pool bracket, but my opponents have them winning it all.

DNCBS has to defeat Bush because if W is reelected it is the end of the Rat Party. They will attempt to lynch Condi and Powell to keep the slaves on the Plantation. Old Man Bradley was being a whip boss by showing what will happen to any slaves that attempt to escape. The Rats have everything riding on this and so does their allies at DNCBS!! Imagine if the Rats had a HOSTILE press??

Pray for W and The Truth

Today on Chris Mathews Sunday show, Carlson said he was appalled that people want our government to apologize for what the terrorists did.

OK... I admit I must've left the room when he said that and missed it. The part of the show I did see, he didn't say much at all, other than being cut off by another panelist when he mentioned the Sudan/bin Laden/Clinton handover. He never got to finish his comment.

I just finished watching it. I thought Condi held her own. Especially her explaining how the terrorist didn't expect our response with all out war on them. Their continued hits against American interests from Beirut to seeing the US leave Somalia. Their arrogance of thinking they were winning and we would do nothing.

I also come away with the idea of Clark apologizing for the Clinton administration's failure and Clark's failure during that time for not doing his job.

No matter how it's retold, Clark is just more consequences of an impeached Clinton administration. Only God knows how much we will continue to reap from 8 years of the Clinton's perjury and obstruction.

There is a little matter called National Security that those on this so called commission are fully aware of that makes it so that Condi Should not testify live on television.

There is nothing they can ask her on camera that they can't ask behind closed doors. If their real intent was to find out what went wrong, they wouldn't be whining about her only appearing off camera.

All they will do is make speeches and smear her, and if their actions of late mean anything, they will not care a bit about our national security. This is all about political points, not our country's best interests.

Not to mention that it's never been any secret that one of the things that has gotten bin Laden's goat all along has been Iraq, as the old sheephumper himself stated in one of his fatwas (declarations of war) on us in 1998, right when tensions with iraq were peaking:

FEBRUARY 23, 1998 : (BIN LADEN FATWA DWELLS LONG ON COMPLAINTS ABOUT US TREATMENT OF IRAQ) FAS Note: The following statement from Usama bin Laden and his associates purports to be a religious ruling (fatwa) requiring the killing of Americans, both civilian and military. This document is part of the evidence that links the bin Laden network to the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. The original Arabic text of this statement may be found here. (http://www.library.cornell.edu/colldev/mideast/fatw2.htm)

Jihad Against Jews and Crusaders

World Islamic Front Statement

23 February 1998

Shaykh Usamah Bin-Muhammad Bin-Ladin
Ayman al-Zawahiri, amir of the Jihad Group in Egypt
Abu-Yasir Rifa'i Ahmad Taha, Egyptian Islamic Group
Shaykh Mir Hamzah, secretary of the Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Pakistan
Fazlur Rahman, amir of the Jihad Movement in Bangladesh

Praise be to Allah, who revealed the Book, controls the clouds, defeats factionalism, and says in His Book: "But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war)"; and peace be upon our Prophet, Muhammad Bin-'Abdallah, who said: I have been sent with the sword between my hands to ensure that no one but Allah is worshipped, Allah who put my livelihood under the shadow of my spear and who inflicts humiliation and scorn on those who disobey my orders.

The Arabian Peninsula has never -- since Allah made it flat, created its desert, and encircled it with seas -- been stormed by any forces like the crusader armies spreading in it like locusts, eating its riches and wiping out its plantations. All this is happening at a time in which nations are attacking Muslims like people fighting over a plate of food. In the light of the grave situation and the lack of support, we and you are obliged to discuss current events, and we should all agree on how to settle the matter.

No one argues today about three facts that are known to everyone; we will list them, in order to remind everyone:

First, for over seven years the United States has been occupying the lands of Islam in the holiest of places, the Arabian Peninsula, plundering its riches, dictating to its rulers, humiliating its people, terrorizing its neighbors, and turning its bases in the Peninsula into a spearhead through which to fight the neighboring Muslim peoples.

If some people have in the past argued about the fact of the occupation, all the people of the Peninsula have now acknowledged it. The best proof of this is the Americans' continuing aggression against the Iraqi people using the Peninsula as a staging post, even though all its rulers are against their territories being used to that end, but they are helpless.

Second, despite the great devastation inflicted on the Iraqi people by the crusader-Zionist alliance, and despite the huge number of those killed, which has exceeded 1 million... despite all this, the Americans are once against trying to repeat the horrific massacres, as though they are not content with the protracted blockade imposed after the ferocious war or the fragmentation and devastation.

So here they come to annihilate what is left of this people and to humiliate their Muslim neighbors.

Third, if the Americans' aims behind these wars are religious and economic, the aim is also to serve the Jews' petty state and divert attention from its occupation of Jerusalem and murder of Muslims there. The best proof of this is their eagerness to destroy Iraq, the strongest neighboring Arab state, and their endeavor to fragment all the states of the region such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Sudan into paper statelets and through their disunion and weakness to guarantee Israel's survival and the continuation of the brutal crusade occupation of the Peninsula.

All these crimes and sins committed by the Americans are a clear declaration of war on Allah, his messenger, and Muslims. And ulema have throughout Islamic history unanimously agreed that the jihad is an individual duty if the enemy destroys the Muslim countries. This was revealed by Imam Bin-Qadamah in "Al- Mughni," Imam al-Kisa'i in "Al-Bada'i," al-Qurtubi in his interpretation, and the shaykh of al-Islam in his books, where he said: "As for the fighting to repulse [an enemy], it is aimed at defending sanctity and religion, and it is a duty as agreed [by the ulema]. Nothing is more sacred than belief except repulsing an enemy who is attacking religion and life."

On that basis, and in compliance with Allah's order, we issue the following fatwa to all Muslims:

The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies -- civilians and military -- is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque [Mecca] from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty Allah, "and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together," and "fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah."

This is in addition to the words of Almighty Allah: "And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated (and oppressed)? -- women and children, whose cry is: 'Our Lord, rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from thee one who will help!'"

We -- with Allah's help -- call on every Muslim who believes in Allah and wishes to be rewarded to comply with Allah's order to kill the Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it. We also call on Muslim ulema, leaders, youths, and soldiers to launch the raid on Satan's U.S. troops and the devil's supporters allying with them, and to displace those who are behind them so that they may learn a lesson.

Almighty Allah said: "O ye who believe, give your response to Allah and His Apostle, when He calleth you to that which will give you life. And know that Allah cometh between a man and his heart, and that it is He to whom ye shall all be gathered."

Almighty Allah also says: "O ye who believe, what is the matter with you, that when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling so heavily to the earth! Do ye prefer the life of this world to the hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the hereafter. Unless ye go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place; but Him ye would not harm in the least. For Allah hath power over all things."

Almighty Allah also says: "So lose no heart, nor fall into despair. For ye must gain mastery if ye are true in faith."

I believe the media believe that a template can be created and the general public can be made to beieve that there is a "generally accepted" belief that Bush is corrupt and inept. They know they only need a few million votes to sway the election for their man, and that is what they are aiming for. If the dems can win Ohio, Fla, and Penn-- its in the bag. Two out of those three might even do it....

You hit it on the nose. Deserves restating.

They are not the one's whining about it that I'm concerned about. It's how well the dems might be able to play this out as an issue.

As for National Security matters I'm sure that if the commitee asked any ,which I doubt they would because they know better--Condi can easily answer any with a disclaimer.

Does anyone have the exact passage from Woodward's book that references the President's so-called lack of "urgency"?

You mean Clarke's book, don't you? Woodward's is not out for another three weeks.

clinton saying that the reason he did not take OBL was because we didn't have a legal reason to hold him....just never ever happened.

Maybe something as good or even better though - apparently Janet Reno had the CIA present Masoud (Northern Alliance) with a list or rules under which he could "legally" catch or kill UBL ... still under seal of 9/11 commission based on commenting that happened between the lines during Sandy Berger testimony.

Clarke extensively quoted Bob Woodward's book (out about a year, but I forget the name of it) on at least two interviews today. He even put on his little cheaters to read psalm and verse from it.

"You mean Clarke's book, don't you?"

No, Woodward's book "Bush At War". It was released late 2002. Bradley alludes to it twice in the Condi interview. Here's one such instance:

"ED BRADLEY:
After 9/11, Bob Woodward wrote a book in which he had incredible access and interviewed the president of the United States. He quotes President Bush as saying that he didn't feel a sense of urgency about Osama bin Laden. Woodward wrote that bin Laden was not the president's focus or that of his nationally security team."

So, what's the President's actual quote and in what context was it given? They're running wild with this and I was hoping someone could save me the indignation of thumbing through it at the bookstore.

LOL! Looks like your excellent post rubbed a few posters the wrong way.

You're right, of course - this is a marathon, not a sprint. We need to be in the trenches, sharpening our bayonets and checking our weapons, not worrying about the taunts of the enemy from across no man's land.

I've been here a real long time, and this is just the SOS from the Lefties.

Dogs rule! :-)
