Gaddafi Walks Out of Arab Summit
BBC News ^ | 5/22/04 | wire reporter

The Libyan leader, Col. Mummar Gaddafi has walked out of an Arab league summit in a row over its agenda.

The gesture was a further blow to the Tunis metting which was cancelled in March over a disagreement over reforms.

'Libya sees itself forced to boycott the summit because it does not agree with the agenda,' Col. Gaddafi said.

The Arab league meeting is due to disuss the occupation of Iraq-including prisoner abuse-as well as the Israeli -Palestinian conflict.

Col. Gaddafi walked out of the conference hall in Tunis during a speech by Arab league Secretary General Amr Moussa.

Diplomats said Gaddafi was apparently annoyed by Mr. Moussa's criticism of Arabs who act unilaterally-an apparent reference to Libya's decision to scrap programs to develop weapons of mass destruction.

He has often threatened to pull Libya out of the Arab league, and had to be urged by fellow leaders to attend this summit to show unity.

Do you think that the bomb we dropped over there affected his outlook on life?

He's had a life changing experience, either that or he colluded with Syria on WMD's and now wants to play 'good boy.'

Yup.... curiouser, and curiouser..one gets the feeling that much of the story behind Qadafi's ( dare I say it?) "come to Jesus" moment has yet to be revealed..partly becuase of operational security and partly because of political considerations...

I'm ebarrassed to admit my ignorance regarding Libya's oil production...if it's significant, he could really prove himself by dropping out of OPEC and forming a nice, comfy alliance with the U.S.

This isn't the first time he has walked out on an Arab summit. There may be some special reason, or it may just be that he is a prima donna.

Last time he declared that he was no longer interested in being an Arab, but had decided to be an African.

We're in the middle of a very civil war with the Middle East and the rest of the Islamic world.

I strongly suspect it's the latter. .....although being caught with his hand in the WMD cookie jar could very well have been a life-changing experience.

Actually, one could almost say that it was better to let the WMD's go off to Syria..There in one place, we obviously can keep an eye on them. Also, we can destabilize the Assad regime at anytime now, and letting them go to Syria keeps them out of the hands of the crazies in Iraq.

My pet queston, FWIW..during Gulf War I....Iraq launched SCUDS...prior to the start of GW II, Iraq had, 70-100 SCUDS of two or three variants, and some 10-15 mobile launchers...That's why the Aussie troops were deployed into the Western desert well before the war started, to find and destroy the SCUDS, to prevent them from being launched against Israel...The Aussies found the MIGS buried int he sand, remember, but there has been not ONE report of a SCUD or a mobile launcher captured, or destroyed...

While the Arabs united, the Democrats, Socialists and Communists do all they can to fracture American resolve.

Every passing day it is clearer and clearer that the Left is not on our side, but the enemy's.

Others called for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, condemned terrorism, and advocated political and economic reform in Arab nations.

I assume these are all dead now?
