Operation 2008 also assumes that Republicans will not have a great candidate in five years. In fact, the Republican Party is producing an arsenal of powerful campaigners, including conservative candidates who are members of traditionally Democrat minorities. Consider, for example, what a potent candidate Herman Cain would make in 2008, if he is elected to the Senate in 2004 as an attractive, articulate black conservative Republican from Georgia?
The favorite today may well be Jeb Bush. Americans like political families, Floridians like Jeb Bush, and Jeb's wife, who is Mexican, will not just help win Hispanic voters, but more specifically Mexican voters, who will be a potent force in California and other states. If national security remains the principal concern of Americans, continuity in administration would have great appeal (FDR won two extra presidential elections for precisely this reason).
Bush-Cain 2008 How dynamic would a Jeb Bush - Herman Cain ticket be? This dream ticket would garner all the people who love President Bush and it would also pull in black and Hispanic voters who were otherwise ambivalent toward Republican candidates.
The polarizing effect of Hillary in such a race would be entirely negative. Many people would vote for Jeb and many people would vote against Hillary, but those who opposed Jeb and supported Hillary - a small part of the electorate - would not be influenced at all.
Look at the list of Republican governors who have been elected to two terms. That's where you'll find the next Republican presidential candidate. Since 1976 only one winning presidential candidate has never served as the governor of a state.
Each has their own reasons, or obvious objective reasons, like Cain won't be elected to the Senate. Jeb is too dynastic, and he won't do it, Owens I won't get into, Frist does not have it in is gut, and really doesn't like politics much (he was thinking of retiring until thrust forward), etc.
Hmm...a black conservative as a Republican president...
We know that generally speaking blacks are very conservative on social issue - abortion, gay marriage, etc.
A black conservative willing to act on these issues could end the Democrat's plantation politics...permanently...which would destroy the Democrat party...
Bush/Cain sounds great. But I have to go with the big guns, none other than Rudy. I know he is not strict conservative, but he has the moxie and recognition to leave madam hilary in the dust.
The record of Austrian expatriots running their adopted countries is not too good.
Rick Santorum or Condi Rice, maybe with Rudy as the running mate.
Rumors. Maybe they are untrue. That's enough for now.
If Jeb runs what will he promise mexico, 1st class tickes to save them the long walk? :->
I don't care who else is up for it. I figure in my lifetime I'll probably only get one chance to vote for a truely qualified, conservative, female, black presidential candidate, so Condi's got my vote whenever she wants it. (You should read that speech she gave at Vanderbilt a few weeks ago. It's on www.whitehouse.gov.)
That is a cheap shot. I think you indulged in that one before, and it was cheap then, and it's cheap now, in my opinion.
Pawlenty is already running for 2008...or so it seems. I fully expect him to be a top potential come 2006 and on.
Dennis Haysbert? LOL
Nope.
After Nov 3, we need to start working on electing another two or three GOP senators, so we have a filibuster-proof majority.
We should pick up a few seats this year, but not enough.
Brought to you by the same political geniuses who though Reagan and Gingrich were "unelectable radicals", and Bob Dole would win in 1996.
What in hell qualifies that statist to run as a Republican at the national level?
Is he for a smaller government?
How about fewer gun laws?
Does he support more individual Freedom?
He's a corrupt big city mayor. His only claim to fame is he just happened to be mayor on 9/11. BFD. The true heros were the firefighters and cops that sacrifices their lives. Not some politician who was in the right place at the right time.
Not against Hillary! they won't.
I don't know what that word means but it sounds like you don't like the Bushes very much.
