Tourist should be aware that a new law Number 89/2004 launched by the Egyptian Government on May 22nd, 2004 and effective immediately, increase the sales tax for hotels from five to ten percent. Obviously this will result in a five percent increase in most hotel rooms.

Egypt Tourist Alert (Jan 21, 2009 BC)

Tourists should be aware that a new law Number 00/2009 launched by the Egyptian Government on Jan 21, 1600 BC and effective immediately, increases the sales tax for sheep and camel from five to ten percent due to recent damage to the toll booth (er, fort) on the Horas Highway. Obviously this is is only a temporary measure, and will result in a five percent increase for at most only 10 years.
