CLINTON IN FURY OVER BLAIR IRAQ 'BETRAYAL'
The Daily Mirror (U.K.) ^ | August 19, 2004 | Oonagh Blackman

Posted on 08/19/2004 2:13:19 AM PDT by Stoat

BILL Clinton has accused Tony Blair of "betraying" him over the way he backed the Iraq War.

The former President has privately told Democratic Party friends Mr Blair should have challenged George Bush more.

A senior Labour source who visited Democrats in the US revealed: "Clinton feels betrayed by what Blair did.

"He feels the PM gave Bush respectable cover for the war and under- estimated his influence, which could have been put to better uses.

"But he has made it clear he's not going to hold a grudge."

Senior Democrats are dismayed at the closeness between the PM and Republican Mr Bush - and his failure to publicly back Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry.

They have assured Labour figures they will "not hold a grudge" if they win November's elections.

But ex-Foreign Secretary Robin Cook hinted Labour's relationship with the Democrats could be wrecked.

He said: "They're confident they're going to win.

"This is good news for the world but not unalloyed joy for Tony Blair."

Two months ago ex- Democrat presidential hopeful Howard Dean said: "We don't know what to make of Tony Blair.

"He was a strong friend of Clinton, now he's an ally with President Bush."

"Ole" Bill struck the same pose for 8 years while in the White House except when he was giving the Country away.

Already seen this. I can only suggest syphilitic dementia is setting in with old Bill.

Clinton tried to get Blair to join Germany and France and abandon America before the war began. Blair would not do it. Blair gave the most eloquent speeches explaining the rationale for war and continues to speak out justifying it.

Clinton will hold a grudge.

"But he has made it clear he's not going to hold a grudge."

I'm sure that takes a big load off of Blair's mind. ;^)

This is extremely hot news if true. This sounds like Clinton was meddling in foreign affairs, trying to undermine the foreign policy of the elected President. Was he also talking to Chirac?

Back before the war began we heard Clinton and Blair met privately. Some here feared Blair would cave...I am pleased to say I predicted he would not. We all guessed Clinton was trying to talk him out of supporting "Bush" (America).

Well, remember a few months ago when that interview in England took place (Dimbleby??) and the headlines were about Clinton taking umbrage at the Monica questions? That was the least of the interview. The interviewer flat out asked him if it was true he tried to talk Blair out of supporting the war and Clinton gave one of those long rambling answers that did not deny that is what he tried to do.

And yes, I and others suspect he did indeed meet with Chirac and Schroeder and God knows who else.

"It is clear, however, that if left unchecked,
Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity
to wage biological and chemical warfare,
and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.
Should he succeed in that endeavor,
he could alter the political and security landscape
of the Middle East, which as we know
all too well affects American security."

Floor Speech of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

I think, right here on ATWR there was some mention of x42's meeting with leaders in europe trying to keep them from helping President Bush before we went into Afphanistan and Iraq. He didn't want them to help up. He's a fine Amerikan.

"He was a strong friend of Clinton, now he's an ally with President Bush."

Maybe he became fiends with one democrat too many and finally sees them for what they are.
